The Body Shop Warming Mineral mask

This face mask review will be the first of its kind on the blog. Yup, that’s right, I have never reviewed a face mask before. Why, you ask? Because I never got round to it! I love the Freeman Avocado mask, but I just never took any pictures of that. So when I bought some new face masks recently, I made it a point to take pictures and get testing. Here’s what I think of the The Body Shop Warming Mineral mask.

The Body Shop Warming Mineral mask

I absolutely adore the ladies at my local TBS store. They are always very helpful and thanks to them I have discovered quite a few of my favorites. From the Nutriganics eye cream, to my trusted Aloe Vera products and my favorite Vitamin E serum: I discovered them all thanks to the lovely ladies of TBS. I generally like TBS skincare and so when I was recommended this warming mineral mask, I just knew I had to try it.

The Body Shop Warming Mineral mask contains 100 ml of product and retails for 11 pounds or €17 per tube. It contains ginger and cinnamon for a warming effect that should open your pores and deeply clean the skin. And that’s what I love face masks for: for a little bit of extra oomph be it extra moisture or an extra deep cleanse to invigorate the skin and give it a bit of a boost.

Ingredients

PEG-8 (Humectant), Zeolite (Warming Agent), Glycerin (Humectant), Kaolin (Absorbent), Methyl Gluceth-20 (Viscosity Modifier), Zinc Oxide (Sunscreen), PEG-220 (Binder/Humectant/Solvent), Algae (Seaweed Extract) (Natural Additive), Methylparaben (Preservative), Propylparaben (Preservative), Tocopheryl Acetate (Antioxidant), Curcuma zedoaria (Zedoary Oil) (Skin Conditioning Agent), Zingiber officinale (Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Oil) (Natural Additive), Cinnamal (Fragrance Ingredient), Cinnamomum zeylanicum (Cinnamon Oil) (Fragrance), Linalool (Fragrance Ingredient), Eugenol (Fragrance Ingredient), Limonene (Fragrance Ingredient), Benzyl Benzoate (Solvent), Citral (Fragrance Ingredient), Coumarin (Fragrance Ingredient), Cinnamyl Alcohol (Fragrance Ingredient).

This doesn’t come fragrance free, but as far as I can tell there are plenty of good ingredients in here. Let’s move on to the product itself.

The product comes in a tube. Yes! I hate masks that come in a disposable package or a jar. It’s messy, you always use too much and it’s so unhygienic. So packaging wise I am satisfied.

Texture wise the product is a rather thick, almost greasy substance. That is mostly because of the clay and glycerin in this product. It is white and spreads out easily. I like applying my face masks with a cheap foundation brush and this works just fine with this mask as well. When I first applied this product onto my hand, I could already feel it warming up instantly and so I was curious to find out what it felt like on my face.

Left & top right: just applied. Bottom right: after letting it sit for 5 – 10 minutes.

When I applied this to my face, the warming effect was again instant. It only lasts a 30 seconds or so. The warmth is supposed to open up your pores so the rest of the product can work its magic on soaking up all the gunk that is hidden inside.

After 5 – 10 minutes, you can clearly see how the product has bunched up in places. I found this happened mostly in places where my pores clog up the most: around my nose, on my chin and on my forehead. One downside to this is the fact that it heats up. It feels great in winter, but I in warmer weather this may not feel so nice.

Full face & close up

The aftermath of this product was nice. I didn’t take any before pictures (I forgot) but then again, who would like to see a picture of my clogged up pores close up?! It left my skin a little bit red (the red spot beneath my brow is from plucking, NOT the mask), but it felt great: a bit like after I cleanse my face in the shower. What I liked most was how my skin felt clean, but not stripped. My skin didn’t feel irritated nor did it pull or feel taut at all.

Overall, I really like the The Body Shop Warming Mineral mask. It makes my skin feel fresh and clean. I personally don’t use face masks all that often. Maybe once every 2 – 3 weeks. My skin is fairly sensitive and doing it more often might cause my skin to break out and become over sensitive. This is why I keep it to a minimum, especially the cleansing ones. However, when I use this mask no more than once every two weeks it has not given me any negative side effects whatsoever. It’s a keeper!
