New Catrice lipsticks: EveryBARE and Nowhere, Don’t Worry Be Berry, Hot N Spicy & Legend’Berry

It’s mid-way February which means Catrice has some new products out! Wait what?! If you missed the memo, I posted a video last Saturday where I show you all the bits I picked up from the Catrice Spring/ Summer 2016 range. I thought I’d start reviewing some items pronto and I figured: what better way to start than by reviewing some new lipsticks? So here it is! There are 3 new shades from two existing lines and one from a completely new one.

I picked up two new shades from the Ultimate Colour line, one from the Ultimate Stay line and one from the brand new Supreme Fusion line. The Ultimate Colour lipsticks cost €3.99 a pop. The Ultimate Stay and Supreme Fusion lipsticks are a little more expensive, but at €4.99 a piece still very affordable, drugstore lipsticks. I have tried other colors from both the Ultimate Colour and Ultimate Stay lines before. You can find those reviews by clicking on the links.

Let’s have a look at the Ultimate Colour lipsticks first. These are a long time drugstore favorite of many. They pack a punch of color, have a creamy texture and last a decent amount of time on the lips. A good 4 hours at least. I do find that the formula has been altered over the years and to great results. I wore Hot N Spicy for a good 6 hours the other day before it needed a touch up. It does heavily depend on what you have to drink and eat while you wear these and these will definitely smudge so beware! These are definitely not kissproof.

This is what Catrice has to say about the Supreme Fusion lipsticks:

The Supreme Fusion Lipcolour + Care combines radiant colour with a pampering formula. The soft texture ensures a silky-shiny finish and visibly smooth, flawless lips. The colours of the lipstick core and the outer ring unite to offer unique, flawless results with medium to high coverage as well as a beautiful shine.

This is definitely a very soft and creamy formula. I picked it up in a nude shade which is a perfect my lips but better color as it turns out. I was most curious about this lipstick as this was the only truly new formula I picked up. Because of the creamy formula this lipstick doesn’t last through a meal and needs frequent touch ups, but the way this feels on the lips makes it and instant winner.

The Ultimate Stay lipsticks have a satin finish to them, which is not quite matte, yet still very flattering. I find the colors to be mostly muted, which is great if you’re looking for an everyday lipstick. The wear time on this is supposed to be longer, but I don’t find these particularly long lasting. A MAC matte lipstick has a lot more lasting power and lasts a workday on me. I would say the Ultimate Stay lipsticks last as long as the Ultimate Colour ones: a good 4 – 6 hours.

On to the individual shades. I wasn’t exactly thrilled about another change in the offering of different colors: Catrice always discontinues my favorites. Needless to say, the new shades are absolutely stunning. Hot N Spicy is a lovely bright shade of, well what exactly? It’s not red, it’s not orange and it’s not pink. It is a mix of all three, so I think it is best described as a bright coral that shows its three different undertones in different lights.

Legend’Berry was a shade I picked up on a whim. When I swatched it and saw how packed it was with a lovely dark red shade, I had to have it. Berry tones usually contain a good deal of purple, but this is more of a brown toned red. EveryBARE and Nowhere is a perfect my lips but better shade that will go great with more intense eye looks. Don’t Worry Be Berry makes for a very pretty spring toned berry shade. It has a pinky undertone which makes this a safer, more muted option if Legend’Berry is a bit too much full force for you.

Looking at the swatches you can see what I mean in my previous descriptions. Hot N Spicy and Legend’Berry pack the most punch as they go on fully opaque in one swipe. The Supreme Fusion is a lot more sheer, which is why I only picked up one of these. Sheer lipsticks usually do nothing for me, but if this works for me it could be a very pretty nude. Finally, the swatch shows the more muted shade of Don’t Worry Be Berry very nicely, yet the color still goes on opaque.

And this is what these lovely lipsticks look like on the lips (how’s that for alliteration?!). The Ultimate Colour range is very full on pigmentation wise. They have a hint of shine to them, but aren’t overly glossy. I was surprised to see the Supreme Fusion lipstick covering up my natural lip shade: the lipstick is a tad lighter than my natural lips and yet, none of my natural lip color shine through. On these lip swatches you can best see the more matte, satin finish of the Ultimate Stay lipsticks. It looks softer and less defined, while packing plenty of color pay off.

Full face I like the Ultimate Colour lipsticks best. To me, they make my face look more alive and I find that bright and dark lipsticks suit me. However, the more natural tones of the Supreme Fusion and Ultimate Stay lipsticks are still very pretty and could work with a different make up look. Whenever I’m swatching lipsticks, I try to keep my eye looks very neutral to not take away from the lipsticks. EveryBARE and Nowhere will be perfect with more extreme smokey looks, whereas Don’t Worry Be Berry will be very pretty with a warm bronze eye I think.

I think it is safe to say that I think Catrice has done it again. Release some great new lipsticks that is. From the texture, to the shade range, and the longevity to the pigmentation: these lipsticks give you a lot of bang for your buck. Granted, the shades have to be your cup of tea, but if you’re not afraid of wearing color there is something for you. However, the new shades also cater to the more natural make up wearer. In short, Catrice has released some lipsticks that could work for anyone and that, I think is a job well done.

What shade would you wear?
