You know I love sharing my shampoo and conditioners, especially if I have found a combo that truly works. I always like to give them a good try to really see if the products do something nice for my hair yes or no. And I have to say that I haven’t been this impressed with a shampoo and conditioner for a long time. It took some time to get used to as I had to change up how I use these in my shower routine, but once I figured it out, I have been loving my hair 99% of the time.
Dove Advanced Hair Series Ultime Nourishment shampoo & conditioner
The first part that is great about this product is the price: €5.99 each. That truly isn’t a very expensive shampoo and Dove is often on sale in buy one get one free deals, so you can pretty much get this pairing for the price of one. The second part of these products that I like is the packaging. These tubes are easy to use and faff free. They contain 250 ml of product and I seem to be using as much from each one, though the shampoo may be going down a little bit more quickly than the conditioner. However, you don’t need much from each for this to work.

The shampoo is up first. The product comes in a large squeezy tube that closes with a click cap. Because you store these tubes with the opening down, I feel you can get all the product out and so there is little product that you will waste. The premise of this line is a deeply nourishing formula which is infused with Buriti oil. The ingredient list is a load of abracadabra: I cannot find the Buriti oil on there or it has to be the flower oil that you can find halfway down the list. So I am not too impressed by the ingredient list, but as long as it works right?
What matters most is that this product hasn’t dried out my hair, irritated my scalp, or makes my hair overly greasy. In fact, ever since I’ve been using this line I’ve been experiencing fewer greasy hair days. My dry & brittle hair feels nourished and soft, however it is not so soft that it seems to be weighed down. My natural waves are maintained after using the right styling products on my semi-wet hair. In short, this shampoo gets the job done: it cleans my hair, without it feeling too stringent and drying out my hair and scalp.
Despite the SLS in this product it doesn’t foam up too much. The substance is gel like and slightly runny when you first squeeze it out of the tube. One you add water, there are small bubbles, but nothing too crazy. It lathers up nicely I find. I only ever use shampoo on my scalp as that’s the hair that needs a serious clean. The rest of my hair only gets treated with conditioner, so let’s have a look at that.

Now the conditioner took some getting used to. It also comes in a squeezy tube like the shampoo. What confused me at first was the color scheme of this tube. I would expect a shampoo to have the simplest design, not the conditioner. That is of course not a big problem, but more often then not I am holding the conditioner instead of the shampoo when washing my hair. Just a minor gripe, but still, it can be annoying.
Again, the ingredient list isn’t too promising looking. There’s mostly silicones and other chemicals that will smoothen your hair, but will it really nourish? That I found out the hard way. The first times using this my hair felt too smooth and felt limp and lifeless. It was shiny and healthy looking, but incredibly weighed down. It mostly felt like my hair was having too much of a good thing. And it was. I usually let my conditioner soak in by putting my hair up in a bun and not rinsing it out until the end of my shower. This conditioner is so rich, I have to rinse it out immediately else my hair feels too nourished and smooth afterwards.
The substance of this conditioner is a strange one. It is like a thick, creamy, gel that looks rather unappealing. Especially in the low light of my shower, this product looks murky brown which was quite a shock when I first started using this. I seriously wondered whether it had gone off. It hadn’t though and once you lather this up, there are no foam or bubbles, just a smooth creamy texture that allows itself to be spread quickly and evenly through the hair.
Despite the period where I had to get used to this products, now that I have been using them for a few weeks I have been loving them! This leaves my hair feeling soft and nourished without weighing it down and greasing up my hair very quickly. And that’s mainly what I look for in a shampoo.
