The perfect red lip

Red lipstick is a staple and one of the most classic make up products out there. But what red lipstick to choose? It can certainly be a very bold choice color and it can be quite intimidating at first. That’s why I already showed you some red lipsticks for beginners to get you started. Today we’ll have a look at 5 different types of red lipstick. Because a red lipstick comes in many different textures and hues, I hope this blog post will help you to find the best red lipstick shade for you.

Each of the lipsticks I am showing you today, have been featured on the blog before. Either in previous articles and make up looks, and sometimes even in full reviews. I will be providing links to some articles for each lipsticks. So if you want to see what it looks like on, or how it swatches, you can simply click away and compare. I have one lipstick per undertone and there is a mixture of high end and drugstore lipsticks.

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in 69

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in 69

The first red lipstick I am showing you is anything but a classic red lipstick. Urban Decay’s 69 is a red lipstick with a pink undertone, which is why I bought it at the time. This formula is longlasting, but not entirely matte. Color wise I would compare this mostly to a brighter toned raspberry red. The finish is slightly glossy and moisturizing. If you want your lipstick to last all day, I can highly recommend the Urban Decay Revolution lipstick formula.

Topshop lipstick in Rio Rio

Yes, Topshop does lipstick and some very nice ones at that! The best part about this lipstick is quite possibly that it doesn’t break the bank at around €10 each. The Topshop line has some unexpecting shades and it was the first line in which I find a great orange toned red. Orange toned reds are the type of red that I feel suit me best. I own quite a few of these by now, but Topshop Rio Rio remains one of my favorites. It is not too orange, it lasts long enough on your lips and it goes with so many different looks. This is one of my favorite reds to wear in summer.

Dior Rouge Dior Couture Colour Voluptuous Care 988 Rialto

When it comes to high end lipsticks, Dior is one of my favorite brands. Most people talk about Chanel or YSL, but I am a Dior girl at heart. And I think their lipsticks need to be talked about more. If you are looking for a more nourishing formula that isn’t necessarily long lasting, but that doesn’t dry out your lips than these are for you. This darker toned red has a hint of shine to it, making your lips look luscious and chic. There is some shimmer in this lipstick, but on the lips that is translated into the most gorgeous shine rather than a glitter bomb.

MAC Matte lipstick in Russian Red

My favorite all time red? That is MAC’s Russian Red hands down! This matte red is the perfect neutral, classic red. Neutral reds usually have a blueish undertone and that is why they always pack a punch of color and stand out. Neutral reds are the most iconic and classics, as they have been around longest. If you see red lipstick from the 40s and 50s then neutral reds is usually what is being worn. The texture of this is perfect: not too drying, but since it is a matte it’s super long lasting. If you get one red lipstick, I think it should be this one.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Kate lipstick 107

Deeper reds are perfect for fall and winter. And to me, the darker the better. I absolutely love a good dark red lip and the first red lipstick with such a shade that I fell for was Rimmel Lasting Finish Kate lipstick 107. It isn’t too dark and it also isn’t too berry toned. I find that especially drugstore brands have a tendency to infuse a tad too much purple into their darker reds, which instantly makes for a berry rather than a red lipstick. Rimmel refrained and thus made one of the most flattering lipstick shades available in the drugstore. Unfortunately this red line by Rimmel is no longer widely available anymore, but luckily Catrice has come out with a few shades recently that give Rimmel a run for their money.

What is your favorite red lipstick?
