Bite Amuse Bouche lipstick

Are you ready for a raving review? Because I sure am. Bite lipsticks are some of the best lipsticks on the market. There, I said it, straight off the bat. I already knew that as I had already tried their older Matte Creme lipsticks. However, they then proceeded to change their entire lipstick line and introduced the Amuse Bouche lipsticks. Would these be as good?

Let’s just start off by saying that these aren’t cheap. They retail for $26 a piece from Sephora. But for that whopping $26, you buy yourself a nearly 100% natural lipstick that is highly pigmented, with a creamy formula that stays put. Bite’s USP is their mainly food grade ingredient list. As you tend to ‘eat’ most of the lipstick you end up applying it, you might as well rather be safe than sorry. Not every lipstick has the same ingredient list, so the level of naturalness differs per color, but these 4 all score around the 90% all natural mark or higher.

The Packaging

When you buy these lipsticks, they come in these gorgeous boxes. I don’t think this is necessarily for everyone, but I like the look of these boxes. On the lid you will find the name of the color as well as the percentage of natural ingredients your lipstick contains. Thistle and Rhubarb both contain 97% natural ingredients, Maple 91% and Beetroot 88%.

The actual lipstick tube looks like this. It is simple, straightforward and fuss free. These lipstick bullets have a rubberized feel which means that the packaging feels quite sturdy: I am not afraid these will break if I chuck them in my bag. what’s more, the lid clicks shut with a very satisfying click.

The Shades

Thistle – Rhubarb – Maple – Beetroot

When I selected these online, I decided to try a bit of a range again. I find that sampling a nude, a red, a bright and ‘weird’ shade, gives you a pretty good idea of what the full range is like. Unfortunately, Beetroot ended up being very similar to Juniper, the older Matte Creme lipstick I already owned. In total the full range comprises of 44 different shades.

Thistle

Thistle is the lightest shade in my selection. It is also my ‘weird’ shade. When I bought these, Thistle had just launched, together with some other out there shades such as Kale (a dark green) and Squid Ink (a navy blue). Thistle is best described as a grey toned, taupy, mauve. I definitely do not own anything like this, but it is a bit of a risk as these shades aren’t always the most flattering.

Rhubarb

A much safer option is Rhubarb. I was umming and arring between this and their most popular shade: Fig. But Fig seemed a touch too nude for my tastes. That’s why I went with this more intense rosy brown. Since there are so many shades in the range, you will be sure to find a nude that looks good one you and with this one I hit the jackpot. It is hands down my most favorite shade of lipstick. Ever.

Maple

You know I can’t say no to a good red. Maple is a touch different from your every day bog standard red though. This has a very brownish, orange undertone, making it the perfect brick red on the market. It is not as orange as MAC’s Chili, yet still has a decent amount of warmth to it. This is a stunning red to wear in the fall/ winter time. Yet another red in my collection, but one that I consciously reach for on a regular basis.

Beetroot

For my bright option, I went with Beetroot. This intense berry shade is such a stunner. For a berry it isn’t too purple which I like. Because my lips have a naturally purple undertone, they tend to emphasize the purple in berry shades, which isn’t always what I’m going for. This is a very refreshing looking shade. While berries are something I usually safe for the fall time, I like the hint of fuchsia it has as it makes it appropriate for the spring time.

The Swatches

Thistle – Rhubarb – Maple – Beetroot

Now I know you must be curious right? But swatches do not lie. This is one swipe down on my arm. Yes, these are pigmented, incredibly so. These aren’t exactly matte, but they aren’t super shiny either. The texture is emollient and comfortable, yet long wearing. This is the best creamy lipstick formula on the market that nourishes your lips while staying put.

And it’s their lasting power that sold me on these. I will throw these on at 7 AM before I go to work and MAYBE feel like reapplying them once throughout the day. The nude shades tend to disappear more quickly, but the brighter shades tend to leave a gorgeous stain. These do transfer like crazy though, so watch out with getting your hair caught in your lips as it can easily smear the lipstick across your face, which might just make you look like The Joker.

The Lip Swatches

On the lips you can see how opaque these truly are. This is one swipe, no more. Beetroot looks very similar to Maple in this close up, but I can assure you they are not. One thing I had to get used to with these is the smell. They smell like pink lemonade. At first I felt it was too overpowering, but either the scent wears off after a while, or I simply got used to it, because now I quite like it.

Full face you can clearly see the effect of each shade again my skin tone. While Thistle seemed an incredibly unwearable shade at first, I have actually worn this quite a bit. It’s the perfect I-want-to-wear-a-nude-thats-not-boring kinda shade. Rhubarb is simply one of the best nudes I’ve ever found and Maple and Beetroot do exactly what I had expected them to be. Both shades brighten up my face and somehow make it seem more alive.

The Conclusion

Can I stop raving now? I hope this review gives you an idea of how good these lipsticks are. This is hands down one of my favorite lipstick formulas on the market today. I wear all 4 shades on a regular basis and love every minute of it. The only downside is the smell at first and the fact that you can only get these in the US. These lipsticks are definitely worth the hype.
