Freeman Avocado Clay Mask

Last week I showed you my 5 favorite masks and this was sadly missing from that post as I didn’t own it again until last week. And I used it straight away! Because this mask was one I sorely missed after throwing it away because it had become too old. This is a very pore cleansing, but still quite gentle mask. My sensitive skin loves it in any case and that is no ill feat for an affordable face mask.

Freeman Avocado + Oatmeal Clay Mask

Affordable because this costs just €4.99 at the drugstore. I remember when these were only available at De Tuinen and they were a little more expensive. But even around the 10 euro mark this face mask is well work the price point. I find this to have a similar, be it a less aggressive effect, to the GlamGlow SuperMud mask in the white jar.

The Ingredients

This mask should work its magic in 10 minutes, but I leave it on for longer. I just leave it on until is completely dry and use a fairly generous layer as well. This is a kaolin based clay mask which is the type of clay you see in many clay face masks. Oatmeal and avocado are on the list, but not the main ingredients. The ingredient list is surprisingly short, which is why I think my skin likes this. Usually, the more simple the skincare product, the better my skin gets on with it.

The Packaging

This face mask comes in a squeezy tube and that is where my love starts. This makes the mask easy to dispense, you can close off the lid to keep the product clean and you don’t have to stick your fingers or an applicator into the product to apply it. I find this makes for the easiest and most hygienic way of using a mask. You can use exactly the amount of product you need and you don’t run the risk of contaminating anything in the mean time. Since you get a lot of product, that makes this a very welcome bonus.

The Swatch

Now the first thing you’ll notice about this mask is that it is bright green. Not the type of face mask you’d like to open the door in, but as long as it gets the job done right? This has a very thick, creamy texture that dries down to a tough layer. I prefer to apply this with a cheap synthetic foundation brush. You know, that paddle style foundation brush that nobody ever uses for foundation? I have one just for applying face masks and it works great!

What it does

Above I compare this mask to the Glamglow Supermud mask of which the main feature is that it sucks all the gunk out of your pores and minimizes them at the same time. I will spare you the before picture but the Freeman Avocado Mask does something similar and even creates the same crater like texture as it dries. This has the same effect as using one of those nose strips, but without the pulling. With warm water and a face cloth, this easily rinses off as well. It leaves my skin feeling a little tight afterwards, but when you use a good moisturizer right after this, you should be fine.

The Conclusion

before – after

This is one of my favorite face masks for a reason. The Freedom Avocado face mask cleans my pores and is that pick me up my skin needs from time to time. It leaves my skin feeling soft, but doesn’t irritate my skin. I don’t use this too often, maybe once a month, because I feel that if I were to use this more often it may be a little bit much for my sensitive and dehydrated skin. However, if you are looking for a face mask that gives your skin a good clean, then this is one I would highly recommend.
