One of my favorite brands for skincare is Kiehl’s. I discovered it after trying some testers which is something the brand is good at doing. They usually have a huge case of samples so you can try something before you commit to buying the product. The same goes for the product I am reviewing today. After trying a travel size of their Ultra Facial moisturizer and deciding is wasn’t doing enough for my skin, I was recommended to try this. I got a tester, loved it and then decided to buy the full size. How did I fare with the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Deep Moisture Balm after over 3 months of use?
Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Deep Moisture Balm for dry to very dry skin types
The Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Deep Moisture Balm is a product that is formulated for dry skin and retails for €28. You get 50 ml of product and what makes this product unique is the richness of the product. This is one of the richest face moisturizers I have ever tried. Not something to use in the day time and definitely not if you’re oily in any way shape or form either.
Sadly the product comes in a slightly inconvenient container. I prefer my moisturizers in a squeezy tube or in a pump bottle as that is much more hygienic and I feel you waste less product. With a jar, it is easier to get bacteria in the product as well as using too much. And with this product you definitely only need a little bit to make it work. That said, I understand why this comes in a jar, because the consistency is too thick to be distributed in any other way.
I already mentioned how thick this is. As you can see here in the jar, this is not your average gel textured moisturizer. This truly is a balm: it looks like a body butter for your face. What this product promises to do is moisturize and hydrate the skin. It is fragrance, paraben and silicone free.
Aqua/Water, Glycerin, Butyrospermum Parkii Butter/Shea Butter, Glyceryl Stearate, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Squalane, Cetyl Alcohol, Theobroma Cacao Seed Butter/Cocoa Seed Butter, Mannose, PEG-100 Stearate, Copernicia Cerifera Cera/Carnauba Wax, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Sorbic Acid, Tocopherol, Sodium Polyacrylate, Leontopodium Alpinum Extract, Sodium Hydroxide, Stearyl Alcohol, Ceramide 3, Myristyl Alcohol, Adenosine, Capryloyl Salicylic Acid, Pseudoalteromonas Ferment Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia Oil/Lavender Oil, Linalool
It will be no surprise then to know that one of the main ingredients in this product is shea butter. Another ingredient in the first half of the list is cocoa seed butter and a certain type of wax. As I already mentioned above: this product is not for oily skinned people. Apart from these ingredients, most of them don’t make a lot of sense. I just know what it feels like on my skin and how it works.
To show you the texture of this product I have a few pictures for you. When you first take it out of the jar (top left), you will notice how thick and creamy this product is. When you start working it between your hands, a thick and balmy texture comes to light (top right). The next step would be to apply this to the skin (bottom left) and the first time I did that I was in shock as the product was completely white. You then need to massage the product into the skin until it is completely clear (bottom right). The result? A moisturized skin that feel soft and subtle till the next day, even in the dead of winter.
The Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Deep Moisture Balm is one of my favorite night time moisturizers. It is a richly textured balm that makes my skin feel great and moisturized. When I use this I don’t feel the need to use face masks as much as this does enough to keep my skin moisturized and hydrated. So yes, this is one that will definitely repurchase once it is gone, but that won’t be any time soon as I still have tons left. Because a little goes a long way I really feel like you get your money’s worth with this one.
