Today we are looking a bit closer at one of my OG, old time favorites. What we are reviewing today is a MAC Mineralized Skin Finish. Not the shiny highlighter kind, but the mineral makeup setting powder kind. This is a product that I have been using for years as a summer time powder. I completely used one of these up and I didn’t doubt a minute before I repurchased it, because this my dear friends, is a great powder.
MAC Mineralized Skin Finish Natural | Medium
MAC used to be THE brand in the online beauty community and that is why I really tried quite a few of their products when I first started wearing makeup. I remember going into MAC for one of their consultations where you spend an X amount and you get to put that towards product. That is when I bought this and it became my go to powder for the summer time. At ā¬30 a pop it is not a cheap powder, but in terms of powder it is quite normal for a mid range price point.
The Packaging

The MAC packaging changed since I bought my first one. My first one came in the classic packaging which a fairly large see through piece of plastic in the lid that meant you could see the product. Right now, the product comes in a solid black compact. It is bigger and bulkier and it has a weird curve to it which makes it difficult to store. But you do get a mirror which to some people may be improvement compared to the old style packaging.
The Powder

A Mineralized Skin Finish is basically a mineral based powder. In terms of mineral makeup I don’t have the most experience: this may very well be the only mineral makeup product I have ever used. As a powder this is definitely a setting powder. It has a bit of coverage which is why I love it in the summer time. When it is hot, I tend to not wear much face makeup. I just go in with a bit of concealer on the areas where I need it and then I apply this powder on top. Since it gives a bit of coverage, it helps with evening out my skin tone even more.
The Swatch

I own the Mineralized Skin Finish in the shade medium. That may seem too dark for my fair skin, but it works well in the summer time when I use this the most. In general, I feel this shade is not too dark once applied. The powder has a very soft texture and is applied easily. I prefer to apply this with a kabuki brush that is quite dense and I press it onto the skin. It blends easily and makes for a nice even skin tone.
The Application

As you can see in these before and after pictures, you can see the powder mattifies the skin, but still keeps it looking glowy. It has a very natural finish, hence the name. It gives a touch of coverage, but not too much: applying this powder has the same effect as using an Instagram filter. However, this works in real life. It lasts well, but you have to be careful with wearing this in air conditioned surroundings. It can start bunching up in places in overly dry environments on my dry skin, but it can still work if you have a more oily skin type.
The Conclusion

The MAC Mineralized Skin Finish Natural in Medium is a long-standing favorite for several reasons. A) It works well on my skin in the summer time. B) It adds a hint of coverage. C) Look natural, yet still sets your makeup in place. It comes in several different shades, so you should be able to find yours quite easily.
