Essence bring out new products every 6 months and part of their spring/ summer collection was a full range of workout proof makeup. The You Better Work line is supposed to last when you work out or if you get a bit hot and bothered. And what is more perfect for a line like that than a fixing spray? I quite liked the other fixing spray I tried by Essence so this was worth a shot.
Essence You Better Work Fixing Spray
As you might expect, Essence’s products are affordable and this fixing spray is no different. At just €2.99 this is a great price point for a fixing spray. One of my other favorite fixing sprays is the much more expensive Urban Decay All Nighter. That retails for €15 for a small bottle of 50 mls. This is only a fifth of the price!
For that affordable price point, you do not get the best designed product on the market. I personally greatly dislike the packaging of these products. It just doesn’t appeal to me. The bottle is just a simple spray bottle. The nozzle is nice, this isn’t one of those fixing sprays that can poke an eye out, but the mist could be finer.
The Fixing Spray
It is very hard to show fixing sprays in swatches and befores and afters. So you’ll just have to take my word on this. I have been trying this fixing spray for a few weeks now and I can tell you I don’t like it for a few reasons. It smells nice, but that is about the only thing I like about this. The main reason I don’t like this? It doesn’t fix my makeup in place.
I apply a fixing spray to make my makeup last longer and with this fixing spray I don’t feel that is necessarily the case. I am not the most oily person on the planet: I have dry/ dehydrated skin. So for this to not make my makeup last longer is not a good sign. When I wear this, I get so oily around my nose, forehead and chin. It looks really gross actually.
But not only does this fixing spray not work well, it is also not the best for my skin. I am not an ingredient fiend, but something in this product makes my skin react. I don’t get bumps or redness, but whenever I apply this it starts to ‘burn’ my skin. It only lasts a few seconds, but it is a very unpleasant feeling and I therefore feel I cannot even try and use this up. Not only is it very unpleasant to use, I just don’t want to risk using this for a longer period of time.
I was hoping the Essence You Better Work Fixing Spray would be a good summer time fixing spray. But this product does not live up to its claims. It is not waterproof, it is definitely not sweatproof and as icing on the cake it makes my skin react to something that is in there that feels really badly. Needless to say, this products is one that will go into the declutter pile. Also good to know: Essence will be discontinuing this product in favor of newer products for their fall/ winter 2019. I can’t wait!

Too bad this spray didn’t work out for you, it’s very disappointing! As affordable fixing spray, I love the Mario Badescu one so much, it’s more expensive than this one but it’s still cheap and lasts a long time. I really recommend it! other than that, I love Catrice’s facial sprays, they are AMAZING!
I have switched back to my favorite Catrice one. So far that has been my favorite affordable spray.
