Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Cream lipgloss review

Who’d have thought that I would be writing a dedicated review on a lipgloss? Well certainly not me. I am a matte lipstick lover pur sang and never in my wildest dreams had I imagined that I would fall in love with a lipgloss. But fall in love I did. It all started with a Colourpop Lux Gloss but that just decided I should branch out and try more lipgloss. One of my first picks? The Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb. They had just released their new cream formula and I picked up a pretty mauve shade and fell head over heels in love with it. This is by now my most used lip product of 2021. Here’s why!

Review: Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Cream Lip Cream in Mauve Wive$

I actually kind of bought this on a whim. I wanted to make my purchase worth it and to justify placing an order with Sephora.FR I felt I had to buy more than just a single shimmering gloss boms which is the one everyone raves about. And yes, that would be the French Sephora website which is a nightmare to navigate so I had to make it good just to get over that experience. But it’s the only place that ships Fenty to my country so I kind of have to put up with it. This gloss retails for €19.

What does this gloss have to offer?

When you say lipgloss, I say ew, gross, sticky. That’s how I felt about lipgloss for a loooong time. I tried glosses from time to time, especially whenever Essence or Catrice did some new ones, but nothing ever made me fall in love. They felt sticky, were uncomfortable to wear and my hair would continuously get caught in it. Fenty Beauty’s Gloss Bomb has been touted for years as one of the best glosses on the market as it is non-sticky and doesn’t disappear within minutes from your lips. So I was very much looking forward to trying some.

How does this lipgloss perform?

And I was instantly impressed. I bought this because it was new, but in terms of gloss I actually don’t like ‘cream’ lipglosses. If I wear a gloss, I want it to sparkle, because why else go through the trouble right? Might as well wear a lipstick. Or so I thought. I therefore kind of bought this as a gamble, especially because I wasn’t hearing that many people who loved this product. They loved the first gloss bomb, but this one didn’t get rave reviews. But I love this! Why? It’s soft and pillowy on the lips. It feels nourishing, but for a gloss still stays put a fair amount of time. This never feels sticky and it just makes my lips feel like they are super hydrated and just luscious feeling. The little hint of shine makes them look more plump and the shade is spot on: a true, my lips but better, kind of shade.

Why is this product worth it?

For me, whether it is gloss or liquid lipsticks or concealers, it all comes down to the wand. If the product comes with an applicator, that applicator better be an addition to the experience of using the product. In the case of this lipgloss I feel that is the case. The wand is quite bit but it feels I never have to double dip. There is enough product on the wand to cover all of my lips and it is still easy enough to be precise and hit all the corner of my lips without it going everywhere.

How does this product swatch?

When I think of lipgloss, I think of iridescent shimmers with barely any base pigment. This cream gloss is definitely a fully opaque color. It is quite a thick formula but it feels very creamy and while not sticky, it does take a good 3 hours for this to wear down. It does wear down more quickly than a lipstick would, but I can be teaching and talking for a few hours until I feel it is time for a touch up. This also has some nourishing ingredients that makes your lips feel less dry even after the product has already worn off. The formula nicely ‘fills up’ my lips and it doesn’t pull into lines (which I feel many glosses do): it is that kind of lip product that instantly makes your lips look much better than they did.

My final thoughts

I can only rave about the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Cream in Mauve Wives. It is a shade that is perfect for me and I have been wearing this a lot. After trying it for the first time last January, I ‘accidentally’ slipped it into my shop my stash drawer and kept using it. Now that I consciously selected it for my Shop My Stash I have been wearing this most days. It truly is that nude for me that I can slap on and it will look great with everything. Plus it is great for those working from home days where you just want to wear something but nothing too intense.

Would I recommend the Fenty Gloss Bomb Cream lipgloss?

This is a stunning lipgloss and I don’t understand why people don’t like this more. I personally don’t find this has an offensive scent at all (some of the critique I heard) and I love how this is non-sticky and the shade is just spot on. I really like the way this looks and feels on the lips. Still, it’s a gloss so that is something to take into account. If you don’t like glosses than this may not be for you. However, and this is coming from a matte lipstick lover at heart, this product really swayed me to really give glosses a chance.

What is your favorite lipgloss formula?

  1. Great review, now I want one of the cream ones. I already have 10 colours of the original fomula.

By the way, Harvey Nichols also ships to the Netherlands and stocks Fenty. Shipping is 14 euros I think, so ordering from the french sephora is cheaper, but the site is much easier to navigate.

    • Thanks for the tip. Harvey Nichols is based in the UK though and under new Brexit rules you will have to pay extra VAT over your purchases on top of any shipping costs unless the webshop pays them for you. I guess I’m stuck with ordering from Sephora France until the brand comes to Cultbeauty or Beautybay.
