Essence Skin Lovin’ Sensitive concealer review

When Essence announced their new Spring/ Summer Collection and saw they were going to do some products especially for sensitive skin, I knew I wanted to try it. I have had issues with sensitive skin myself in the past, but I haven’t had any issues as of late. Still, if a product says it is good for sensitive skin, I want to try it, because there just aren’t enough of these types of products on the market. Let’s see how I got on with this concealer.

Review: Essence Skin Lovin’ Sensitive Concealer 05 Fair

First things first: this being an Essence product we know it is going to be affordable. At just €2.89, this concealer hardly breaks the band and that is why I love Essence products. They can be a bit hit n miss, but when you find one that works, they are usually straight up gems. One such gems? The 16hr Stay All Day concealer. That was a lovely concealer that I used up completely in the past. This concealer seems to be heading into a similar direction.

What does this concealer have to offer?

The Skin Lovin’ Sensitive line by Essence is one that boasts combining the effect of a makeup product, but the caring properties of skincare. This concealer is formulated with a lot of nasties, fragrance in particular to help with sensitive skins. Yet, the concealer promises to give a medium to high coverage and should still feel lightweight and natural on the skin. It also should be hydrating as it contains aloe vera. To top things off the concealer is vegan and cruelty free.

How does the concealer work?

I have to say that I quite like this concealer. It has good enough coverage as you will see below and it has a very pleasant formula. To be fair though, I don’t think this concealer is anything different from other Essence concealers that I have tried, save for the fact that there is absolutely no fragrance in this product whatsoever. That I think is a good thing for many people, but to me personally it doesn’t make much of the difference. Funnily enough, now that I am using some products that have no fragrance at all makes me realize how much fragrance is used in products.

How does this concealer swatch?

What I love about this concealer is how it looks on the skin. This is a very lightweight texture that blends easily into the skin, doesn’t accentuate fine lines and looks natural all day. It has a bit of a dewy look that I love and this stays looking nice, even after 12 hours of wear. What I don’t love about this concealer? The shade range: it only comes in three shades of which I have the lightest one 05 fair. I really don’t understand how Essence can still do this in 2021. Luckily this shade works for me, but one reason why I didn’t try a lot of Essence base products in the past is because none of their shades were light enough and always far too orange. Now they need to expand to the deeper shades.

How does the concealer apply?

As you can see here, the concealer gives a very natural effect. The before and after don’t look that different, but you can clearly see my inner corner is a lot less dark, looks smoother and a lot brighter. That’s exactly what I need a concealer to do. I don’t want my base products to cancel out everything and therefore I love what this concealer does. It does come with just 3.5 mls of product, so I think it is one I can get through quickly if I set my mind to it, but at this price point, I wouldn’t mind having to repurchase it again and again and again.

My final thoughts

The Essence Skin Lovin’ Sensitive concealer is a great little concealer that just does what it needs to do. I like the added benefit of it being perfect for sensitive skin, but to be quite honest, apart from this being fragrance free, I think the claims on this are a bit bogus and more like a marketing technique more so than anything else. However, I think that many people might like this concealer, provided they can find their shade, and therefore I hope this concealer becomes a success so Essence will release many more shades and don’t discontinue this product within the next product cycle.

Would I recommend the Essence Skin Lovin’ Sensitive concealer?

If you can find your match: yes! I think with this product it isn’t so much a matter of whether the product will work for you, but more so about whether you can find a shade that matches your skin tone. With the limited shade range not many people will be able to find their shade and I think that can really affect who might want to buy and try this product. The concealer is lovely if you like that more natural look, but whether it will look nice on you, all depends on your skin tone.

What is the last concealer you tried?
