Good Molecules Yerba Mate eye gel review

Today’s skincare review is a bit late to the party, but I still wanted to get this up. Good Molecules is a brand that used to send me some PR and this is one of the final products I received as part of that partnership. By now, I have nearly used it up and so I feel confident I can write a review of how I feel about this eye cream. Is it my new favorite? Nah, it’s not, but it was good enough to keep using until the tube ran out.

Skincare Review: Good Molecules Yerba Mate Wake Up Eye Gel

You just can’t beat how affordable the Good Molecules line is. And this eye cream is no different. At just $6 this is not an expensive eye cream at all, in fact it may be the most affordable one I have ever used. Now eye cream, or eye gel as this is branded, is a product that many people will tell you don’t need and in theory I would agree. You could just use your moisturizer and be done. Unfortunately for me, my lids develop milia if I don’t use a dedicated product to moisturize my lids. I have used many different things over the years, but most moisturizers, even specific eye creams, do not do what I need it to do to keep the milia at bay. What I need is something that is rich and creamy enough to hydrate and nourish my lids, but also thin enough that it plays well with my skin, especially under makeup.

What does this eye gel have to offer?

So notice the difference straight away: this is marketed as an eye gel, not an eye cream. That tells me that this will be a lightweight formula that is quickly absorbed by the skin. It also claims to have ingredients to help with a more awake look and when I first looked at the claims on this, it reminded me a lot of the Garnier caffeine roller that I used to swear by (say hello to this ancient review!). This claims to be hydrating and can be used under makeup. I therefore instantly knew that this would mainly be a day time eye cream for me.

What are the ingredients like?

Now somewhere along the way Good Molecules have decided to be even more transparent and now their ingredient list looks like this. Not only do they list the ingredients, but they also say how much of the ingredient you get in the formulation. This claims to include caffeine, peptides and three types of hyaluronic acid. You get all three of those things, but most of it is listed at the bottom of the list. And that may be why, in the end, I feel this didn’t do what I was hoping it would do.

At the end of the day, this eye gel just isn’t doing enough for me. Yes, it’s hydrating but there aren’t enough ingredients in here to really do anything about my everlasting undereye bags. The formula is too thin to make this work in most situations. However, I haven’t found this one to worsen my milia, which is a plus. I would prefer a richer formula though. What it does do is sit well under makeup. If you struggle with fine lines due to dry under eyes, then this may be one to check out as this nicely plumps up the under eye area which instantly makes your concealer look 10x better.

My final thoughts

The Good Molecules Yerba Mate eye gel is one that I just needed a bit more from. I wish the effect of the caffeine was stronger and in terms of it really making my under eye look brighter I felt it just didn’t deliver. This is just a nice hydrating product that makes your makeup apply more evenly and keeps those dry under eyes much more moisturized. In short, a basic, simple skincare products that as long as you don’t expect any miracles is nice enough for the price point.

Would I recommend the Good Molecules Yerba Mate eye gel?

Yes I would! Good Molecules is a brand I have really falling in love with, enough that after having used and reviewed the products that were sent to me that I went out and bought them with my own money. This eye gel is not going on my instant wish list though as I don’t think it’s one I wish to repurchase as I need a bit more from an eye cream. If you would like to try a hydrating product specifically for the under eye area and you don’t have too many demands, this may be a good one to try as it’s super affordable.

  1. I totally agree with your review, it’s a good product, especially for the price but it doesn’t have a very impressive formula. I like that it does not contain coconut or any derivatives of coconut, because my eyes are allergic to it and I can never apply any skincare under my eyes because of that. I have this eye gel at least
