Did we need another Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk review on the Internet? Maybe not, but I thought I could add my two cents since this was one of the 10 foundations I bought to try this year. This is a cult favorite foundation and has been for years. I bought this initially when I found out that the Neo Nude didn’t come in my shade here (I ended up purchasing it online from an international retailer in the end). For the Luminous Silk range we luckily get a tonne of shades and lo and behold: my shade match was pretty much spot on too. So I decided to buy this to give is a whirl and see how it would do on my dry/ dehydrated skin with a cool/ neutral undertone.
Review: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Perfect Glow Flawless foundation Shade 3
Let’s start with that shade range, because I found it mindboggling to see how many shades there were. Online I can find 40 shades but I am not even sure that is everything. So that is great: this goes super light and super dark and everything in between. What is not so great is the price point. This is a pricey foundation at €57.95 at full price for a 30 ml bottle. However, many of my favorite foundations are generally quite expensive as I feel they combine the best of both worlds: easy, lightweight textures with good wear time that look natural on the skin. And that’s exactly what this foundation promises to do.
What does this foundation have to offer?

So let’s delve into the hype! Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk is a cult favorite foundation and I was curious what the hype was all about. I have heard so many people raving about this but many hyped up foundations are hardly good for my skin type and makeup preferences. Those are usually medium to full coverage and matte. This promises to be the opposite: a natural finish, glowy, buildable coverage and great for all skin types. It is suitable for sensitive skin as well as it is free of many additives you can usually find in foundations. So to me, this sounded great and I like trying foundations so let’s see how it went.
How does the foundation swatch?

To say this foundation was love at first swatch would be an understatement. I feel this makes my skin look great. It is like a real perfecting layer that makes my skin look airbrushed but still natural. It’s not as glowy as I prefer though: I would describe this as a satin sheen but I love how you can just go in with one pump and it covers your skin just enough but without it looking overly heavy or cakey. I also love the wear time of this. This foundation looks great all day. It hardly transfers onto clothing or scarves and it looks almost the same at the end of the day as it does when it first goes on at 6 AM in the morning. In short, this foundation ticks many of my boxes as I love a foundation that looks great all day even on long teaching days.
What is the shade match like?

Whenever I review a foundation, I like to includ ea closeup of how this blends down my neck. As you can see here, the shade match is pretty much spot on. I would recommend going into a store to get matched though. With so many shades and many ‘half’ shades it can be difficult to find your shade online. I have a cool to neutral undertone and many of the foundations in this range skew quite yellow as well so I struggled figuring it out by myself. However, I found a super helpful sales clerk who matched me to my perfect shade in one go. I think this may now be one of the best shade matches in my entire foundation collection. It is that spot on.
What is the coverage like?

I already mentioned this having a buildable coverage. I however, really like a natural look so I only wear a very thin layer of foundation. So I just go in with one pump, no more, and then I get this effect. As you can see, before I apply the foundation my skin is quite red especially in the middle of my face. Once the foundation has been applied, all of that redness has disappeared, but this never looks strange or overly makeuppy. It really has a great lightweight coverage that seems very pliable and really adapts to your skin. I would say though that on very dry skin this may not be the best. As the formula is quite thin, I find it can accentuate very dry patches so this isn’t the most hydrating of formulas.
My final thoughts

The Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation is one of the best foundations I have tried in a long time. It is buildable, natural and easy to wear. It really is a no brainer whenever I have been wearing this. Because of the lightweight texture I pretty much forget I am even wearing makeup and it stays looking great all day. I love the way this looks on and I think that this is a great foundation even if you have more mature skin that is far more wrinkly then mine. This never settles into find lines or cakes up anywhere and I now fully understand why this foundation is so raved out.
Would I recommend the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation?
Yes and no. This is very expensive and if I weren’t reviewing makeup as a side job, I am certain I would find this far too expensive. However, on a sale (I bought mine with 25% off) it can be worth the splurge especially if you are someone who doesn’t own much makeup. I feel this is a great foundation for people looking for a good everyday foundation that you can just wear time and time again and really see you through everything and then some.
