I wanted to do one more foundation review before we get back to some other reviews that I have not gotten around to doing just yet. Then again, there are always more new foundations to try, so I am sure I will be bringing them back very very soon. Today’s turn goes to the Estee Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue foundation. This one came onto my radar because I saw so many people raving about it. Since I loved my Estee Lauder Double Wear Nude Water Fresh foundation, I figured I might like this Estee Lauder foundation too. Let’s see how this one went.
Review: Estee Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue foundation 1N0 Porcelain
So after the Dior, today is another expensive one: at €51 this foundation is another high end option on the market. Estee Lauder is also a high end brand, so I don’t think that price point comes as a surprise. This does contain a little bit more than your standard 30 ml of product so there is that. This foundation comes in a tube but also has a pump for ease of use. It is available in 16 shades and 1N0 Porcelain is the lightest shade available. It is the same shade I have in the Double Wear Nude Water Fresh.
What does the Estee Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue have to offer?

So this is called Hydra Rescue for a reason of course. While this foundation has a medium coverage, it is still a very hydrating, nourishing foundation. This very much reminds me of the It Cosmetics CC Cream which is one of my all time favorite base products. This is rich, creamy and just an overall great foundation for my dry skin. This looks natural yet glowy and this never looks greasy even throughout the day. I found this longlasting and it just did everything I needed it to do.
How does this foundation swatch?

As you can see in these pictures, this is quite possibly the glowiest foundation that I have been trying recently. I really love the finish it gives. There is no streakiness as this blends seamlessly into the skin too. However, can you see how dark this shade looks on the back of my hand? I was very nervous to try this after swatching it. I bought this in the same shade and this is about 5 shades darker than the other Estee Lauder foundation I own. Such a bummer. Yet, with this being a glowy product this could still look okay once the rest of the makeup is done.
What is the shade match like?

Just to prove my point: you can clearly see the demarcation line of where this foundation ends. So no, it’s not a good shade match. Can I blend this down more? Sure and once all my makeup is on I really don’t mind it. However, not only is it dark it also looks quite yellow toned. Not only is this too dark, it is also not the right undertone for me. Such a bummer, especially when this is so expensive. And yet… when I wear this I really don’t mind the shade and I think the pictures below can show you why.
What is the coverage like?

Doesn’t this just look like one of the most natural looking foundations you have ever seen? I mean, yes the shade looks completely off in the close ups, but once applied to my skin and you see the overall look, this really doesn’t make me look like I am ill, nor like my face is much darker than my neck. This has a medium coverage, but with a sponge you can easily make it more wearable and most of my redness is gone. All I need is a touch of concealer and I am good to go.
My final thoughts

Now that I have tried the Estee Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue foundation for real I have to say I am liking this so much more than my first impression allowed for. At first I thought this would be much too dark and it wouldn’t work for me. That’s why I put off trying this for a year before I rolled it into a Shop My Stash. I am so happy that I did. This is a great foundation and I think I will be loving this even more at the end of summer going into fall when I am usually a touch more tanned, which is when this shade will work just as well.
Would I recommend the Estee Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue foundation?
Yes for sure! That is: if you can find your shade. With just 16 shades available this isn’t the best of shade ranges and anyone lighter than me will struggle greatly because this is already a bit too dark for me. I cannot attest to the shades at the deeper end of the spectrum, but there may be similar problems there. So yes this scores highly in terms of formula, texture, finish and wear time, but it could imrpove in terms of available shades.

One thing about Estee Lauder makeup you can go to a store like Macy’s, Belk, etc and the person behind the counter has a tool that scans your color on a couple areas of your face and recommends the match for you. Plus, you have the option right then to see what it looks like on you or you get a sample to take home with you. I haven’t tried this one yet because I love the camflouge double wear make-up.
Maybe in the US or bigger department stores, but over here that’s not a thing.
Estee Lauder does offer help with shade matching on their website and it worked great for me. They also offer help if you are disappointed with with any of their products.
