A launch I was excited about? The Rare Beauty Positive Light Tinted Moisturizer. It launched earlier this year and lucky me was able to find my shade in store when I was in Paris and I bought it. In the next few weeks I will be doing a full face of Rare Beauty as well so I wanted to make sure I could try as many products as I could. And this tinted moisturizer was one I knew I wanted to include in that video. But before showing it in that video, I wanted to make sure I wrote a proper review. So that’s what this is!
Review: Rare Beauty Positive Light Tinted Moisturizer 16C
So I picked this up at the only place that stocks Rare Beauty online in Europe: French Sephora. Luckily I was able to see this in store, because buying base products online can be a challenge. So yeah, Rare Beauty is a brand that can be a tad difficult to get a hold of depending on where you are. It is available in 24 shades and retails for €33 for 30 mls of product. That isn’t super cheap but it also isn’t the most expensive foundation I have ever tried.
What does this product have to offer?

The first thing we need to ask ourselves is this: what is this product exactly. It is a base product that is promoted as a tinted moisturizer. But tinted moisturizers can be a lot of things. Is this just a different name for a lightweight foundation? Or are we dealing with a true skin tint which of course has been all the rage in recent years? I would categorize this as a lightweight foundation more so than anything else. This is too far off to be classed as a skincare product so it’s not a proper tinted moisturizer and as far as skin tints go I think it has a bit too much coverage for that. So a lightweight coverage foundation it is.
What does this look like in a swatch?

So this is in the shade 16 C which seems to be a great match for me. It has a lightweight dewy texture and I only use a little bit and then I still get a pretty good coverage as you can see below. I love the way this sits on the skin as it is all the things I like in a foundation: it is lightweight, dewy, blends easily and wears well on the skin. On my dry/ dehydrated skin I feel this sits nicely and it doesn’t accentuate any dry patches which I love as well.
What is the coverage like?

So here we have a before and after of my face without the product and with. As you can see the effect is very natural and works very well to cancel out my redness. Not all the splotches are gone, but I don’t mind that. I always go in with concealer afterwards. With this though, I find it difficult to blend some concealers on top. It needs to be a lightweight, dewy concealer as well, because else the difference in texture can be quite noticeable. So be careful what you pair this with.
What is the shade match like?

So I already mentioned how I feel this is a nearly perfect shade match for me. Shade 16 C is described as a light shade with a cool peach undertone. It is quite possibly one of the best shade matches I have but then again with lighter coverage foundation it is easier to get a match that looks right one you as the coverage is minimal and you can blend it much better than a fuller coverage product. It is just a bit easier to blend into your actual skin, making it a lot less noticeable.
My final thoughts

The Rare Beauty Tinted Moisturizer is a good product for sure that comes in easy to use packaging and is as easy to use when you try to wear it. I only need a little bit of this to get this result and I love the way this sits and wears on my skin. I wore this for some longer days and it still looked great even after hours of wear. While this also contains SPF, I don’t use enough product to get the protection I need. So this is a good one in my book. I am not sure I would recommend this for everyone though as this isn’t for everyone.
Would I recommend the Rare Beauty Tinted Moisturizer?
This is a good makeup product for sure, but I don’t think you’ll like this if you love minimal coverage. I think this is great if you have more mature skin though as products like this can give that fresh dewy look. If you want more coverage this isn’t one I’d recommend. It is not a product you can build up easily: it stays sheer. And that is exactly the point of the product. So while great indeed, I think this is only interesting for people who are looking for barey there coverage and very light dewy makeup.
