LYS cream blush review

If you’ve been around these parts, you’ll know that I have been loving cream blushes! Since this product has rekindled my love for all things blush, there is plenty of new things to try. One quite affordable option is LYS Beauty and I had yet to try the brand.

LYS Beauty is a makeup line that has inclusivity at its heart. The aim is create universally flattering shades that are workable and look great no matter what. What’s more these products are not necessarily the most expensive either, making the brand very accessible.

Review: LYS Beauty Higher Standard Satin Matte cream blush in Self Love

I bought this blush through Cult Beauty. This is currently the only retailer that sells the brand in the EU market. At the moment of reviewing this, the product is out of stock. But when available it retails for €16.

What does this blush have to offer?

This cream blush comes in 9 shades and promises a satin matte formula. Many cream blushes I have tried tend to lean dewy so I was eager to see how a matte formula would work as a cream.

The formula feels quite thick and creamy when you put your finger into the pan. I feel this really needs the warmth of your fingers to be able to blend it and pick it up.

While this may be matte, this isn’t drying on the skin as it features hydrating ingredients that help this blend it and make it seamless.

What does this shade swatch like?

Self Love is described by the brand as a rosy mauve tone and I would agree. It does pull quite warm though but it is one of the lighter shades the brand has to offer. So I figured it would work best with my skin tone. I do also have one of the deeper shades to try out for you at a later date.

When you apply this, you’ll find out this is very pigmented indeed. A little goes a long way. I personally like to take just a dab, tap it onto my cheeks and blend with my fingers. I just use a little extra if I want a bit more of a flush.

If you stay tuned over on my Youtube channel (or Tiktok @floatingindreams_), you’ll see me applying this in a short some time in December. I filmed how I apply cream blush and this product was perfect for the job.

What does this look like on the cheeks?

Once applied, I find the color a little more intense than I would love to wear day to day. That said this is a stunning product that I have been wearing regularly throughout the month.

My biggest pro about this blush is how versatile it is. If you just use a little bit you can make it work for a soft blush look. Apply more and you can intensify it quite easily. Because it is a cream, you can easily use some of the other shades in the line to create more of a sculpted look as well.

This stays put and has great longevity too, but then again I hardly ever struggle with blush fading on me. I have dry skin mainly on my cheeks, so there are hardly any oils to break up my makeup and tamper with wear time.

Should you buy the LYS cream blush in Self Love?

Did I need another rosy mauve toned blush? No. Do you need another rosy mauve toned blush? Maybe not.

In terms of shade I do think it is a bit more unique due to the intensity of the color. If you ever struggled getting mauve toned blush to look nice on you as it was just too soft of a look, this may be a good one to try.

However, is this an absolute must have that you should run out to get? No. While versatile (which I like), I find the texture a bit harder to work with than most other cream blushes I have tried. This is easily overapplied and then it can be difficult to fix the mistake.

If you don’t mind a bit of a learning curve to check out how much product you’ll need to make this work for you, then this is a good cream blush. But I don’t think it will be as easy to work with if you are an absolute beginner who is new to cream blush.
