Catrice All Matt Plus Banana powder review

Do you remember the Banana powder craze? In my experience they were not brightening at all as they were far too yellow and dark for my fair skin. But then Catrice released this, and I was intrigued. Is this finally a banana powder that does what it is supposed to do?

Let me introduce you to the Catrice All Matt Plus powder in banana. Let’s see how yellow this gets.

Review: Catrice All Matt Plus Shine Control powder Banana shade

The All Matt Plus range by Catrice has been around for a while and the banana shade is new, the formula is not. I already tried a different shade last year and this year we are reviewing the banana shade. All I can say is: at €3.99, this really doesn’t break the bank.

What does this powder have to offer?

The reason I wanted to try this new version of this powder is because it looked a lot lighter than the first one I tried. That was just a touch too dark to really work for me, even if the formula wasn’t that terrible.

However, I have found that if a shade is not right for me, I cannot fully assess what the product can do. This Banana shade looked just right: not too yellow, not quite white but still light enough for it to potentially work.

What does this powder swatch like?

Face powders are notoriously difficult to swatch, especially if they match your skin tone. Here you can sort of see the texture on the back of my hand. It is a soft powder that has a bit of kick back but that works quite well overall.

The shade is light but not as yellow as most banana powders. It has a bit of a white undertone to it, so this could give a white cast once applied to the face. The formula is okay, but this can be overapplied and on dry skin it can look cakey.

What does this look like on the face?

Here you can see what I mean. While the shade of the powder is okay, the texture is a bit too mattifying for my tastes. It looks too much on my nose and around my nostrils this tends to build up and look cakey.

It accentuates pores and fine lines when you apply too much and over a dewy foundation it can bunch up. So while this is affordable, I think this is a good one if you have younger skin than mine and if you have oily skin you might like this too.

Should you buy the Catrice banana powder?

While affordable this powder will not be the best for everyone. If you are in your teens or twenties this may be good for you. I would also recommend this for people with oily skin.

For my more mature, dry skin, this is far too mattifying. While I can make it work, this is too much too quickly and it’s a fine line between what looks good on me and what doesn’t.

I need my powders to be full proof, go with any makeup I wear and last all day without caking up. This powder does not fit that bill and therefore it is just not one of my faves.
