Did you know there are Dutch makeup brands? One such brand is HEMA. This is an allround store that only sells name brand products and they also sell makeup. Their BAE line (beyond anything else) is aimed at a younger audience, but then I spotted the skin tint and I wanted to try it.
The reason why I wanted to try this? It’s affordable. This is by far the most affordable skin tint I have tried to date. And it actually works! So let me explain to you why I have been loving this.
Review: HEMA B.A.E. Shake Up Skin Tint 01 Natural Tan
Who doesn’t love a cheap foundation? Well I do and many of the affordable foundations labelled ‘skin tint’ have been disappointing to me. They all had a bad shade or the texture was not great for my skin type. But this? At just €6 I feel this is the best affordable skin tint I have found.
What does this skin tint have to offer?
Now this skin tint isn’t only good. Sadly it only comes in 6 shades, which means it is not very inclusive. When I bought this I was unsure of that mainly. As you can see in this swatch, it looks very dark and peachy in a full on swatch.
Another thing I wasn’t sure of was whether this would be an actual skin tint or whether it is just another clever marketing trick for a lightweigth foundation. Texture wise I feel this is an actual skin tint where you get some coverage, but not a lot and this looks like skin when it goes on.
How does this skin tint swatch?
But when this is blended in? Look at that! It looks nothing like what it looks like in the bottle. Where some base products can darken when blended into the skin, this lightens.
Another great thing about this foundation is the formula. This is easy to use, easy to blend and it looks natural every time. This can be used with a brush or with fingers. A sponge is not recommended as it will soak up too much product and it no longer works.
What is the coverage like?
Remember, this is a skin tint, not a foundation. There is some coverage here but not overly so. It has a very light coverage that does just enough to mask some of the redness in my skin, but as you can see you can still clearly see some of the discoloration.
To me that just makes this look like one of the most natural foundation like products I have ever used. Because some of my natural skin tone and texture shines though this still looks like skin. It also plays together well with other products to create a great full face makeup look
What is the shade like?
Since this skin tint lightens when blended out, the question is: will this product look good once blended onto the skin. So here you can see a closeup. As you can see this is a perfect match.
Now this won’t be light enough for some people and the other shades may not work for everyone either. So this is definitely a downside. But this doesn’t sit cakey on my skin, wears well throughout the day and looks great after 12+ hours of wear.
Should you buy the HEMA BAE skin tint?
HEMA may be difficult to buy for everyone, but they may be more accessible than you may think. They have stores in Belgium, France and the UK and I believe there are also some in Germany. So this very Dutch brand can definitely be found elsewhere.
If you can get your hands on this, I think this is a good one to try if you are looking for an affordable skin tint. This is good. It reminds me a lot of the Glossier Skin Tint and I actually like this better than that.
This is just such a good product that I am stunned at how affordable this is. Now if they could improve on the shade range this would be a truly perfect product for sure.
