Are you into luxury lipsticks? Then maybe you can have a look into Gucci. Their lipstick line has been a fairly recent discovery for me and in a way it all started with this particular lipstick. Say hello to the Gucci Rouge à Lèvres Voile lipstick in 301 Mae Coral.

Fun fact: when I decided I wanted to buy some Gucci lipsticks this was the first shade that appealed to me together with the Painted Veil. I ended up choosing that one first as these are some of the most expensive lipsticks I ever tried and so I had to ease my way into the collection. By now I have tried 2 shades from every formula and I already showcased all shades in a recent video, but I still wanted to give these their separate moments to shine as well.
Review: Gucci Rouge à Lèvres Voile lipstick 301 Mae Coral
Had I already mentioned that this is an expensive lipstick? In fact, it is the most expensive lipsticks I have ever tried. At €40 – €42 a piece, these lipsticks are a pretty penny. As with any expensive makeup product I always try to ask myself: is this worth the money. For me, these certainly are, but it all depends on your preferences. Let me unpack why I love the Gucci lipsticks so much.
What does this lipstick have to offer?

What made me want to try the Gucci lipstick was their amazing shade range. From the moment I spotted these, I was impressed with the shades they offer and how they present their lipstick line. Not only do they swatch their lipsticks on different skin tones, but also on models with a range of features. Moreover, their lipsticks come in 4 different formulas ranging from most opaque and matte to super sheer and glossy. The Voile lipstick formula is a more sheer and glossy lipstick.
What is the shade like?

So what makes these shade ranges so special? What is different about the Gucci lipstick range is the sheer amount of undertones they offer. If you go one shade up or down you will not only get a deeper or lighter shade but also cooler and warmer tones. In lipsticks that is unheard of and most ranges don’t offer that much. That said though, if you were interested in these, having a look in store and swatching them out is a must have so you can really find the shade that is best for you.
What does this lipstick swatch like?

301 Mae Coral is one of those shades that looks intimidating in the tube, but once on the lips it really isn’t that vibrant. It is a beautiful sheer lipstick with a comfortable formula that lasts fairly well. Granted this won’t be the most longwearing of lipstick formulas but this lasts a good few hours and doesn’t need touching up until after a full on meal.
The only thing I dislike about the Gucci lipsticks is the scent. These all have a floral scent and while it isn’t too overpowering if you are someone who is very sensitive to perfume and fragrance in your products this may not be for you. I love the shade range enough that I can deal with it and I have been loving this fresh, just bitten look for the spring season.
Should you buy the Gucci Voile lipstick in Mae Coral?

Mae Coral is such a pretty coral shade and that’s coming from someone who disliked coral lipstick with a passion. But I tried several shades of the Voile range on and this is the one I kept going back to. It has that perfect balance between warm and cool and so it goes well with my cool to neutral undertone.
What I appreciate most about this is the formula though. The sheer texture that has enough color payoff to see you are wearing lipsticks while combining the comfort of a balm is one I haven’t experienced. This lipstick can be worn super sheer or built up for added pigmentation and it never looks too much. No matter how intense the shade is going to be.
So do you need this? No, I don’t think anyone needs a new lipstick. But if you want to treat yourself and are looking for a pretty product that has stunning packaging as well as a stunning shade range then the Gucci lipsticks are worth a splurge for sure.
