Did you know I had never tried any skincare by an Asian brands before? What better place to get started than an SPF! Not knowing where to start I randomly picked the Canmake Mermaid Skin SPF, which turned out to be J-beauty rather than K-beauty but still a good place to start. Let me tell you why!

My main reason for picking this one out of everything is the fact that it is very well reviewed. There are thousands of reviews on this product on Yesstyle and it averages nearly a 5 star review in total. If that isn’t a good, promising sign then I know what is.
Review: Canmake Mermaid Skin Gel UV Sunscreen SPF 50+ PA++++
I bought mine on Yesstyle as it has the biggest offering for all things Asian makeup and skincare so they are just my go to. This product retails for €12.45 at the minute, but Yesstyle often does flash sales you can get lots of products on there for cheaper than the original price. This products comes in 4 renditions and I think I have the clear one.
What does this brand have to offer?

The brand claims you can use this product as a last step in a skincare routine or as first step in a makeup routine. Below you can therefore see how it sits on the skin with a before and after. The effect is a glowy finish but I didn’t find this did enough as a makeup base, so I used it as a face SPF mainly.
What is the texture like?

One thing with SPFs is that it can leave a white cast. Because this is the clear version and a gel formula I had no issues blending this in. There is no white cast, the formula is very lightweight and it works very well. The only downside to that thin texture: I went through it very quickly. This comes with as much product as other face SPFs I tried and I used this up in under 6 weeks.
Should you buy the Canmake Mermaid Gel SPF?

I think this is a lovely product but I don’t think I would repurchase it. My quest for the best Asian beauty spf continues. My main reason for not repurchasing this is because it is used up so quickly that I would have to repurchase this continuously.
Advantages to this was that it is easy to use, it applies beautifully and blends into the skin seamlessly. There is no white cast and the gel texture means this doesn’t feel heavy on the skin either.
A very pleasant product indeed, but not one that I need to repurchase again and I just want to try other things. I still prefer my La Roche Posay Dry Touch and Hydrating SPFs for sure.
