Oranges & me

I have a bit of a confession to make. Just the other day I ate an orange for the first time in my life. Yes, the first time.

See, the thing is: I used to hate oranges. I have always loved all other types of citrus fruits. I love tangerines, lemons, limes and grapefruits, but oranges… Now that is a different story. Just the smell of it would make my stomach do flipflops, let alone the taste of it.

A few years ago, my preference for certain foods completely changed. I don’t know why, or how that happened, I just now it did. This meant that some foods that I used to love and chuck down by the tons, I now either dislike or completely hate. But it also went the other way round: things I used to hate, I now love. Things I’ve come to dislike/ hate: milk (yet I do eat and like plenty of other dairy products), apples (I have become allergic to them), carbonated drinks (things like sodas now give me a stomachache if I drink too much), most fast food (also makes my stomach churn),  a lot of other foods that are generally bad for you like chips/ crisps, candy, etc. I just can’t seem to eat most of it anymore.

Now for things that I have started to like: oranges, spinach and butter milk (but I hate milk, now that makes sense right?). So it makes sense then that I just braved myself into eating an entire orange for the first time. I started squeezing my own orange juice last year and surprisingly liked it. I tried eating an actual orange before, years ago, and failed miserably. About 1/4 into it I just wanted to throw up but on Wednesday night, it went fine. My stomach wasn’t acting all funky and I liked it. A LOT!

So here’s to the new orange-eating me!

Q: Are there any foods you used to hate that you suddenly liked or vice versa?

One response to “Oranges & me”

  1. Oranges? I dont hate them but I dont like the “white stuff” around it… Otherwise, I used to like pancakes, now I think they’re disgusting. I used to hate pizza, but now I like it! 🙂
