I thought it was time to write a review on my favorite exfoliator: Lush’ Angels on Bare Skin. I love this product as it is gentle enough for my sensitive skin, yet rough enough to give a deep and thorough cleansing.
I got this cleanser after going to a lush store for the first or second time. I liked their products that I had tried till then, and I was given a sample of this to try at home, as I wanted to try their skincare products, but with my sensitive skin it’s better to have try out size before actually buying the real thing. Now the description of the product is that it’s an every day cleanser and that you could even take off your make up with it, but I can already tell you that my skin would not like that. I use this 2-3 times a week in the shower to give my face a more thorough scrub than the usual cleansing.
This is what it looks like: like chunky mud.
Here’s what Lush says:
For heavenly soft and balanced skin, take a smidge of Angels on Bareskin, mix with a little water and massage in. The kaolin clay base deep cleanses while ground almonds gently exfoliate the dead skin away. Rose and lavender are added to soothe and help balance out combination skin. It’s our best selling preservative-free and packaging-free daily cleanser for all skin types, so if you don’t know which cleanser to choose and it’s heavenly skin you’re after, start with Angels.
Soft and balanced? Check! My skin feels super soft after using this and I’ve gotten less blackheads and spots after using this regularly. I actually like the smell of it too: it’s subtle and refreshing to me. You can smell the nuts in there, but also something sweet and soothing which must be the rose and lavender.
Like I said, I won’t use this every day as it would be too rough for my skin. That’s why I use it as an exfoliator instead. I like it better than my previous one (The Body Shop Aloe Vera exfoliator) as it nourishes and cleans my skin at the same time, which I’m sure is the result of the clay combined with the almonds.
Here’s how you use it:
You take a bit of product. It doesn’t have to be much. It can be the size of a pea to a peanut depending on your liking:
Now just rub your hands together to create a nice lather:
And that is what you get. You can clearly see the chunks of nut on my hand. All that’s left is to rub your hands over your face, making sure to rub the sides of your nose and t-zone area and rinse off. This is also the reason why I use it in the shower: it would be way too messy to use over a sink.
I’m left with silky smooth, healthy skin every time I use this. I wouldn’t recommend it for removing eye make up as the grains could potentially irritate your eyes. But other than that this is a great product that’s soft, nourishing, soothing and cleansing all at the same time. Just make sure you smell it before you buy it. I don’t think the smell will be to everyone’s taste. Even though the price tag is quite high (I believe this tiny jar cost me a little over 10 euros), I will definitely purchase this again when my jar is empty.
Q: what’s your favorite facial scrub?

Thanks Maaike!
I was looking for something like this. At the moment I’m using a product of Rituals, but it’s really expensive. I would like to get more out of it.
So I’m thinking of buying this one instead!
^^ Ask for a sample first! They will give you enough so you can really try it before buying a full size one. As this one isn’t cheap as well.

I just wonder how do you wash your face after applying this cleanser? it makes my face feel soft and clean, but i noticed a thin layer of clay is left on my skin (sometimes trapped on my hairlines). i’m not sure if i should thoroughly remove this with water, which i find quite troublesome, but i’m afraid it will clog the pores. what do u think? i’d appreciate if u could share some tips here. thnx in advance! 🙂
I use it in the shower and so it doesn’t really matter where it gets as I can douse myself with plenty of water and rinse it off. Afterwards I just use a simple facial cleanser by TBS to clean my skin a bit more. I’m never left with a layer on my skin, so I don’t know what you could do about that. Have you already tried using a facial cleanser after using AOBS?
ok i’ll try that. tnx! 🙂
