I was listening to some music the other day and suddenly the Ghostbusters theme song came on and I had a flashback. An immediate flashback to my childhood when I watched cartoons on a daily basis. I suddenly remembered that I used to watch the Ghostbusters cartoon and later on I also started watching the movie with Dan Ackroyd and Bill Murray. I thought it would be fun to show you some Ghostbusters. Care to join in on my memory?
So let’s have a look at some trailers first:
So this is the movie trailer from 1984. 1984! That movie is as old as I am! Apparently this movie is the reason why the cartoon was made in the first place, which I didn’t know before. I remember this being one of the first real ‘grown up’ movies I was allowed to watch. And I also remember that when I was in New York for the first time, I went to Central Park and immediately recognized the building that features the main ghost in the movie.
And here’s the opening sequence to the cartoon. Oh the memories! I believe I watched this along with my brother. Slimer was my favorite character as well as that super nerdy guy. You know, the one with the glasses and the brains behind it all? I loved all of the gadgets and the concept of zapping away ghosts with those impressive machines.
But, while googling some information on this I also found the following:
Another spin off from the movie, only it’s slightly different. It seems to be based on a 1970s live action tv programme, but I have never seen that. I do remember watching the cartoon too though, but nothing specific stood out until I saw the main bad guy again which is this ghost with a steel face. Apparently he’s called Prime Evil, but comes from wikipedia, not my memory. If you watch the video above, you can watch an episode.
Did you watch Ghostbusters as a kid? If so, what did you like/ dislike about it?

Oh good lord… Don’t tell me you didn’t know the film was there before the cartoon… This proves I’m really getting horrendously old… I can’t remember seeing the film for the first time in the cinema or at home, televised, but the cartoon series was something my younger brother liked, not me. Anyway, the Ghostbusters theme song is still firmly printed in my memory too.
Well the movie was made in the year I was born and I remember watching the cartoons before the movie. My guess: the cartoons were most likely dubbed which enabled me to watch them at an earlier age so seems logical.
As if you have to ask! To answer your question – the nerdy one, is Egon 😛
I actually watched the movies at a young age, I’m not sure which I watched first the films or the cartoon but I definitely watched the films when I was quite young – I think they did a great job in making the films accessible and not too scary for kids.
The cartoon series I loved and slimer was my favourite.
The OTHER/ALTERNATIVE cartoon however – yes I watched it, I even had a video. It’s quite different from The Real GhostBusters but I must say the video I had, included an episode about a werewolf (Fangster) and that scared the bejeebus out of me. The intro still gives me goosebumps!
Ghostbusters simply rocked! Hahah I love that you loved this too! I think that when it comes to cartoons and things like that we actually have quite a bit in common.
