New in: YSL lipstick in tropical pink

One make up trend for spring/ summer 2013 are bold bright lips. I have been on a bit of a lip kick make up wise. I’ve been changing up my standard heavy smokey eye and switching it for bolder, darker and brighter lips on and off since last summer. These past few weeks I’ve definitely found myself going more and more for a simple eye look and a statement lip. This is probably why, when I walked into my local store, I immediately veered towards lipsticks and when I saw this bright bold pink with a purple blue undertone I was sold.

YSL lipstick Rouge Pur Couture 49 Tropical Pink

I had been wanting a YSL lipstick for a while now as I heard great things about them, but I hadn’t found a shade that I wanted to have just yet. This one immediately jumped out at me and I think you can tell why. This neon pink color is so in your face that I was curious to see whether it would suit me. The minute I put it on I went wow and even the girl from the store came up to me saying that it looked great on.

The packaging of these lipsticks are simply great. The lipstick comes in a shiny gold tube with the YSL logo added in embossed red lettering. The only downside is that the name of the lipstick cannot be found anywhere on the tube, only a number. But it’s super duper pretty nonetheless. I always feel with these high end lipsticks you often pay more for the brand name and the packaging than anything else.

As you can see from the pictures above, the swatches are very opaque and the color simply jumps at you. It’s a neon pink color that has a clear violet undertone. Purple undertones in make up products, be it eyeshadow or lipstick, generally look good on me. The YSL logo is engraved into the lipstick (which is a nice touch) and the texture is very creamy at first but dries fairly quickly which can leave your lips look chapped. Make sure you use lipbalm before putting this on! The lipstick lasts quite some hours as it dries up into a stain. I wore this to work (where I drink tea, water and hot chocolate and eat lunch) and I didn’t reapply is in the 7 or so hours that I was there. Once it dries, it simply stays put.

Last but not least, I want to show you what this looks like on. My overall make up look doesn’t really go with it (it’s too warm toned) but these are from when I bought it and trying it in the store. I think it adds a fresh and spring time touch to the look, without it being too overbearing. Because as shocking pink as this looks in the tube and on the swatch that’s how easy to wear this lipstick is.

Do you own any YSL lipsticks and if so which ones?

  2. […] YSL Rouge pur Couture Tropical Pink – One of my first every truly bright lipstick purchases was an expensive one, but also one of my best ones. The YSL Rouge Pur Couture formula is one of my favorite luxury lipstick formulas and Tropical Pink is a neon pink to boot. This has a very strong white base and is therefore even brighter than MAC’s Candy Yum Yum. It definitely works best for me if I have a bit of a tan and will look gorgeous if you have a tan to dark skin tone. […]
