This winter OPI released the Mariah Carey collection. Part of this collection are 4 very special types of nail polish: the liquid sands polishes. The idea of these nail polishes is that they have a textured look and feel to them. As if you’ve just sprinkled some sand on your nails. I was intrigued by them and after seeing swatches on several blogs I had set my sights on the black with red glitter one. Upon seeing them in the store however, I instantly noticed how pretty the coral pink toned The Impossible was. Needless to say that was the one I took home and I finally decided to wear it.

In the pic above I feel you can best see the color of this amazing polish. It’s a bright vibrant coral pink color. It’s just a shame that none of the stars you can see in the bottle actually transferred onto my nails. If you have any tips for me on how I can do that, then let me know.
Since pictures showing off the color didn’t show off the texture as nicely, I decided to change the settings on my camera to show you how different this actually is. In a way it gives you the best of both worlds: a bit of matte, a hint of glitter combined in a bright textured color.
As you can see it’s a fine grained texture which is filled to the brim with silver glitter, yet still it retains a matte feel. I say silver glitter, because when this polish started to wear off a thin layer of the color wears off exposing the silver of the glitters. I also layered it over 2 coats of Diamonds Cosmetics Warm Coral to bring out the coral and make it pop a bit more. The only downside to this polish is that you cannot use a top coat to make it last: that would eliminate the grainy texture and matte look which is what this nail polish is all about.
All in all I am pleasantly surprised by this polish. Not only by the color, but also by its drying time and staying power. Yes, it takes longer to let it dry simply because I didn’t use a fast drying topcoat, but despite that, it does stay on nicely. I am writing this while this baby has been on my nails for 5 days and I only have one chip and some tip wear. And that to me is fairly special as most nail polish lasts about a day on my nails without chipping if I don’t use a topcoat.
I am thinking that this will quickly become my favorite spring/ summer polish. Now if I could only reach those pretty little stars!
