Catrice Luxury Lacquers limited edition (12 colors incl. swatches)

Hold up! Stop! I knew Catrice would be releasing a nail polish only limited edition collection and when I walked into my local drugstore yesterday I found the display. Better yet: Kruidvat is doing a 2 for 5 euro offer on all Catrice nail polish. I had made a list in advance and put it in my wallet eons ago, just in case I spotted the collection. And there it was. Nearly untouched. For a nail polish junkie like myself, that’s like Christmas. So I took home a little more than I had initially anticipated, but that does mean I have plenty to show you. On to the post and the prettiness that is Catrice Luxury Lacquers collection.

The Catrice Luxury Lacquers limited edition collection contains 24 nail polishes that are divided into 4 different sections. Each section has its own finish. The four different flavors are: Million Brilliance, Sand’sation, Holomania and Chameleon. This is what Catrice says about the collection:

Show Effects. Looks must be multi-facetted, the feel unusual. The new fabrics in the designer collections are there to be discovered with all your senses. Three-dimensional structures, elaborate applications as well as multi-dimensional colours with holographic or metallic effects turn the designs into luxury items. More is more. That’s why the Limited Edition “Luxury Lacquers” by CATRICE“, which will be available in stores in March 2014, offers a total of 24 nail polish colours guaranteed to be eye-catching. You have a choice of four different effects: Sand’sation, Chameleon, Million Brilliance and Holomania. All polishes shine in the trendiest colours of the season and offer ultimate coverage as well as a long-lasting texture. Limited Edition, unlimited Effects – by CATRICE.

When I first heard of this collection, many blogs were comparing this to a previously released nail polish only collection by Catrice, dubbed Million Styles, which consisted of 8 special effect top coats. The difference with the new collection isn’t only a larger number of polishes to choose from, but Catrice also promises full coverage polishes. I wrote a blog post about it at the time, which you can find here. I was curious to see whether Catrice was right on the coverage and if this collection was going to be anything special.

I took home 12 out of the 24 polishes: 4 Million Brilliance, 3 Sand’sation, 3 Chameleon and 2 Holomania. In short: yes, I think these are worth it. There are plenty of colors to choose from and coverage wise there is no let down. I will discuss each finish and show swatches of each polish in this post.

1. Million Brilliance

BRIGHTsmaid, Glitter me if you can, Walk of glitters,  Glitterama

Catrice says:

Special Sparkle. Multi-dimensional glitter and pearls sparkle in all facets and give your nails a luxurious coat. The result is unique and brillliant – absolute must-haves and suitable for all trendy looks.

I took home most of this finish: I just love the sparkly and glittery finish. The texture looks a lot like the Crushed Crystals nail polish in Oyster & Champagne which Catrice released with their semi-annual renewal of their product range. And when I swatched these that’s exactly what I got. All colors are gorgeous. I just wished the green color was a bit more opaque. BRIGHTsmaid is a good coverage and sparkling silver. Glitter me if you can is a brass/ bronze colored glitter. Walk of glitters is a red and Glitterama is a sparkling, emerald green. In total their are 4 other colors in this range: a blue, a purple, a pink and a dusty rose color.

2.) Chameleon

Catrice Luxury Lacquers Chameleon in

C(h)ome, Leon!, Salmon Salmon but Different, Chromeo & Juliet

Catrice says:

Colour Change. Intensive, powerful colour meets upon iridescent duo-chrome here. The unique chameleon effect makes a real statement. The shine is full of effects, the colour offers great coverage and the texture is especially long-lasting.

I have several duochrome effect nail polishes, but the color range Catrice created takes the cake. From the product pictures I had seen online, I had only thought I’d like one of these. I ended up going home with 3 out of 4. What I love about these is how they change as you move them. My only worry was their opaqueness. Several of the duochromes I already own, are sheer, which makes for a lackluster effect. Not with these puppies! Even the sheer looking peach tone is opaque with two coats on my nail wheel. C(h)home, Leon! is a peachy nude tone which shifts to a blueish green tone. Salmon Salmon but Different is a coral pink which a subtle blue undertone. The duochrome effect is the least in this one. Finally, Chromeo & Juliet is a red metallic base which shifts to a golden bronze tone. The only polish I didn’t buy is a pink, in which I found the duochrome effect the weakest.

3.) Sand’sation

Catrice Luxury Lacquers Sand’sation in

100perSand Real, Tropicoral, Sandhopper

Catrice says:

3Deluxe. The Sand’sation nail polishes offer a sandy finish with high coverage and a sensational colour brilliance. The fine crystals cover your nails like diamond dust to give them an unmistakable structure.

Yep, these polishes definitely have a textured finish. Though, compared to my OPI Liquid Sand polishes, the texture is not as noticeable. This is more like a more prominent glitter than a true sand textured effect. I did like the colors they had. I would have bought more if I didn’t already have some of these in similar colors from different brands. Plus some of the colors within the collection are very similar too. 100perSand Real is a really nice silver and quite possible my favorite from this entire collection. The sand effect is the strongest from all three polishes that I have and I like the textured effect combined with lighter colors. Tropicoral is a pinky coral color which is a bit lighter on the swatch than in the bottle. Sandhopper is a nice light turquoise color: great for spring/ summer! There are 5 more colors which I opted out of: a blue, a purple, a red, a pink and a peach color.

4.) Holomania

Catrice Luxury Lacquers Holomania in

ApHolo7 & Plum me up Scotty

Catrice says:

Pretty Prism. Holographic effects give your nails a unique look – exclusive and fascinating at the same time. The metallic colours with an ultimate prism effect come in cool silver and blue shades as well as a fashionable purple. Ultimate coverage and ultimate durability are guaranteed. On top of that, the professional brush offers a particularly easy application.

Holographic nail polish isn’t something new and done by more brands. I found it the least exciting finish in this collection, which is why I only picked up two. The other two colors are a silver and a green. I found that the green looked a lot like Sand’sation in Sandhopper and silver is quite possibly the most frequent color used in holographic nail polish. I already knew I wanted to have Plum me up Scotty from the product pictures. This plummy mauve pairs very nicely with the holographic effect. For the longest time I doubted between the green and the blue color. I went with blue in the end because I was already buying greens from the other flavors. When I got home I realized I already own a blue holographic nail polish from HEMA, but I am curious to see how these compare.

Time for swatches!
