5x summer polish faves

Summer is a great time for wearing nail polish. It’s a perfect time to do away with glittery top coats (although I like wearing those year round), and go with bright or pastel creamy colors. For summer, I like to go for extremes: the boldest blues, the brightest reds, but also some muted colors that remind me of summer. From the foam heads on crashing waves, to fruity watermelon and the prettiest flowers: these are my summer nail polish favorites for 2014.

1.) Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paint in Blue Grape

WAM! BOOM! KAPOW! This nail polish couldn’t be more blue. And that’s exactly what I like about it. In any case, the Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine polishes are some of my favorites when it comes to colors, texture and finish. It has a long lasting power and goes on like a dream. And this bright blue will go nicely on your hands or feet for that extra pop of color with today’s monochrome summer fashion trend.

2.) Essie Cute as a Button

You can’t go wrong with a pinky coral shade such as this one. It reminds me of fresh, ripe watermelon: one of my favorite and most refreshing foods for summer. It looks cute on the nails and is bright without being too much in your face. This Essie polish is fully opaque with two layers and has okay lasting power.

3.) OPI Mermaid’s Tears (Pirates of the Caribbean LE)

This muted muted green/ grey color doesn’t look like much in the bottle or the swatch, but on the nails this one is one of my favorite colors to wear. It has a very neutral undertone, yet still adds a bit of color to your nails. It looks especially nice against my pale skin tone (which doesn’t tan). The contrast makes for a very fresh look. And what else can I say about this polish? It is OPI, so you know I’m going to love it no matter what.

4.) L’Oreal Color Riche Nouvelle Vague

A pretty lilac shade always makes for a good summer shade. The L’Oreal Color Riche polishes are a bit thick and gloopy and go on opaque in almost one coat. Which, for a color this light, is actually a very good performance. For those days where you want something cute and colorful, but nothing too bright and crazy. Oh and did I mention I love the name? It’s the same as a French cover band’s whose music I love to play in summer.

5.) Max Factor Glossfininity Cerise

I don’t wear a lot of reds on my finger nails, but when I do it’s usually this bright orangy red and it’s always during summer. This polish has great lasting power, the color is amazing and it applies smoothly. The reason why I love wearing this in summer is because it goes with my favorite red summer lipstick (Topshop Rio Rio) and one of my favorite red summer dresses.

What is your favorite nail polish for summer?
