L’Oreal EverRiche nutrition & lightness shampoo & conditioner

I’m on a haircare roll this week. First the Lush hair mask review on Saturday and now a shampoo & conditioner review. These are by L’Oreal and are from their EverRiche line which boasts to contain no sulfates and be nourishing at the same time. I have the nourishing variety of this shampoo. There are a few others, at least one for colored hair, but this combo peeked my interest as it is formulated for dry hair that falls flat easily. And that is my hair to a t.

My hair is dry and brittle but the minute I use products to restore moisture, my hair droops down like that of a long haired dog. It lies flat on my head, lacks volume and is wavy. Regular nourishing products do only that and makes for an even flatter, and usually less wavy result. But ever since I’ve been using this shampoo and conditioner combination I feel my hair get some well-needed nutrition while at the same time remaining its bounce and flair. Not only is this a great haircare product, but also I haven’t seen this product mentioned on endless blogs, so I was compelled to write a full review.

Here is what L’Oreal says:

The cleansers in this shampoo are much more gentle than your standard shampoo. No SLS or SLES, but different versions that simply do the same thing. The oils that are promised are in there, but only halfway through the list, but it’s still more than most shampoos I’ve used. And you can see that in the texture and feel of the shampoo as you squeeze it out of its tube and add some water to foam it up, as demonstrated below.

The reason why this shampoo works is because it hardly foams up. So there are your gentle surfactants at work. The formula is thick and gloopy and you only need a little bit to wash your hair. I only use shampoo on my scalp to prevent stripping my dry ends even further, and I find this works really well for that purpose. If my hair is a bit greasy though I do find I need to sometimes wash my hair twice to make for a good clean. In my case that only happens if I forego washing my hair for too long and work out a lot, so it’s in extreme situations where the shampoo seems to have a harder time. I do not find my hair getting greasier more quickly with this shampoo compared to other shampoos I’ve used in the past and it doesn’t leave my hair and scalp feel stripped after a wash.

I pair this shampoo with the conditioner to wash my ends and here’s my experience with that product from the line.

Hair Expertise EverRiche Nourishing & Taming Conditioner is a hair care product specifically designed for very dry and rebellious hair. Enriched with botanical oils, the formula leaves hair feeling intensely nourished whilst helping to protect from dryness.

Rebellious hair huh? Well it definitely seems to have a mind of its own on some days, so I guess that fits the bill. Again the promise of nourished hair and protecting from dryness. And I can be very straightforward: it definitely does. This conditioner is by far the most nourishing conditioner ever used. I used a different conditioner while I was on vacation and I could tell that my hair definitely ‘missed’ this product while I was away.

The ingredient list is even better than the shampoo. One of the major ingredients is sunflower seed oil. Not silicones, no oil. And that’s something you notice in the texture, feel and workings of this product. The botanical oils are again at the bottom and halfway down the list and thus this product looks even a bit more promising than the shampoo.

The first thing I can tell you is that this conditioner feels different from other conditioners. Where most conditioners are filled to the brim with silicones to smoothen your hair, this contains sunflower seed oil and that is what makes all the difference. Not to say these are silicone free, but still, they’re not at the top of the list. As you can see this conditioner is about as thick as whipped cream. When you try foaming it up in your hands, it simply won’t. The texture remains super creamy and no bubbles will form. I simply lather this on my ends and then pull my hair up into a bun. I go about my other shower business and rinse this out last. The result? Nourished, luscious feeling hair.

All in all I am very very pleased with these hair products. The packaging is practical, comes with a good amount of product and the product is easy to use and a little goes a long way. Both the shampoo and conditioner have a very pleasant yet not too overpowering smell. The products contain some fragrance, but it’s the last item on the ingredient list so that does not bother me too much. They are a bit pricey compared to most drugstore shampoos and conditioners: around €9.50 per bottle. However, drugstores often do buy 1 get 1 free discounts on haircare and shampoo and that’s when I bought this, so it’s still a good deal. And I have a new favorite, yet I’m not too particular to shampoo & conditioner: as long as it works I’m all game. So when this runs out, I’ll probably try something new again, but once I need to repurchase new shampoo and conditioner I will definitely stock up on this when it’s on offer again.
