Yes to Carrots Shampoo & Conditioner

Since haircare products is one type of beauty product I am not too picky with, I like trying out new products. One line I have been curious about for a while is the Yes to Carrots line. So when it was time to find myself a new shampoo and conditioner to try, I randomly decided to pick these up. I’ve been using both products for a few weeks now and so it is time to tell you what I think.

Can we just briefly have a look at this bright orange design? I don’t know but just the color of these makes me happy just to look at. But we’ll get into packaging in a bit. The reason why I wanted to try this is because plenty of people have talked about this brand online. I picked up the shampoo and conditioner for normal to dry hair since that is the type of hair I have. What I am looking for in my haircare is a nourishing product that doesn’t weigh down my hair.

The bottles themselves are huge. They contain 500 ml each and one thing this product claims is to be free of parabens and SLS. I have heard of people who love both products, but also people who love the shampoo and disliked the conditioner and the other way round.

Let’s have a look at the shampoo first. The packaging is a bit confusing to me. I keep grabbing this when I want to use the conditioner and the conditioner when I need the shampoo. Luckily enough I have stopped myself before using the wrong product.

The lid isn’t my favorite. It is a press down button and then the other end pops up and it allows you to dispense the product. Not sure why or how did it, but I managed to break this the first time I used it. The packaging still works, but it’s not ideal and it is a bit of a hassle to try and use this now.

The ingredients look so great on this! I love how it doesn’t have SLS and plenty of oils and extracts which are at the top of the list. The promise is to soften, hydrate and moisturize the hair. All you need is a dollop and you massage it in and just rinse it out.

The texture is very gel like and liquidy and transforms into a balmy foam once water is added. Because the bottle is gigantic and my lid is now broken, I have been using way too much product as too much comes out. The product itself is amazing though. It smells great: sweet but not too sweet. It’s a fresh fruity smell that I for once love. It also doesn’t linger too long which is great.

The shampoo cleans my hair just fine. It gets the job done, doesn’t dry out my scalp and my hair doesn’t grease up any quicker than it usually does. I do find that it can give that squeaky clean feeling that cheaper shampoos sometimes give me, but I find that this is a lot more cleansing than most moisturizing shampoos I’ve tried.

Moving on to the conditioner, which is supposed to condition and moisturize the hair as well as be a bit of a treat at the same time. Where the shampoo contains pommegranate, the conditioner contains aloe vera.

The packaging to this is similar to the shampoo. However, this one I managed to keep intact and so using the product is a bit easier. The bottle is still very big, which is a bit of a downside to this product. I’ve dropped this plenty of times because my hands are slippery in the shower and the bottle is just a bit too heavy.

The conditioner contains ingredients that make me slightly less happy. But where most conditioners contain mostly silicones this most definitely does not. Again, the conditioner should soften, hydrate and moisturize you hair. I use this slightly different than instructed: I only apply it to the ends, then put my hair in a bun, go about my shower business and rinse it out at the end of my shower.

The texture of this is thicker and creamier than the shampoo. It lathers up into a cream and again smells just like the shampoo. Because this product is thicker, it doesn’t come out of the bottle as easily and so I find it easier to pick the right amount of product time after time.

The conditioner is actually pretty nice. It’s not mindblowing, but it does what it says on the tin, which is condition your hair. My hair hasn’t become overly frizzy (which is what happens when a shampoo doesn’t work for me) and my natural waves are most definitely still there. It doesn’t way my hair down, but the products aren’t super voluminizing, so my hair does have a tendency to lie pretty flat.

In conclusion, I can say that these products are good basic hair products. They are not products that are gamechangers to my haircare routine. The products work fine, but the packaging is a bit of a faff as the bottles are large and heavy. I am also racing through the shampoo whereas the conditioner is slow going. I will most likely be using up the shampoo a lot quicker than the conditioner. For the price you pay (roughly 10 euros per bottle), I think there are better shampoos and conditioners out there, but if you are looking for a good shampoo at this price point, I can surely recommend this combo.
