Chanel Candeur et Experience eyeshadow palette

Whoopsie daisy, I reviewed a Chanel palette just a little over a month ago, and now I have another one to show you. But Chanel has truly stepped up their eyeshadow game lately. And so just after buying a stunning cool toned palette, I opted for this very warm toned. Also good to note: I think this may very well be one of the very first fully matte eyeshadow palettes Chanel has ever produced. It is part of their fall limited edition collection and I think it is absolutely stunning.

At a whopping €51.90, this is the type of product that breaks the bank. I like spending my money on more luxurious products from time to time. Provided they truly add something to my collection and aren’t just another neutral palette. But yes, this product will set you back a sweet penny. To me, it’s worth it and I hope to show you in this post why.

As usual, we’ll start with packaging. The compact comes in a shiny box, clad in a velvet pouch and comes with a little booklet with instructions. All those extras are the norm when you buy a more high end make up product, but not necessarily of much use. That’s why I didn’t photograph them. The Chanel packaging is one of the prettiest out there: it’s minimalist and chic. Too bad all the compacts are made of a fairly cheap plastic though.

When you open up the palette, you will find a decent sized mirror and two itty bitty applicators. Inside there are four shades: all ranging in different tones of warm toned, reddish browns. From a very light brown to a more deep and intense brown. These colors just scream fall to me and the fact that they are all matte is a plus. The only thing the palette doesn’t have is a highlight. I’m sure that if you’ve got a deeper skin tone than mine, the top right shade might work, but on me these are all a bit too dark. So I do have to bring in a separate highlight for the brow bone and inner corner.

• Shade one: a medium toned warm brown with a reddish undertone
• Shade two: a light brown with a beige under tone, also matte
• Shade three: a medium red with a clear warm brown undertone
• Shade four: a deep chocolate brown

The texture of these shadows is so buttery and smooth! Especially for mattes, they have good color pay off and the intensity is nothing too outrageous, yet very buildable. The only shade that doesn’t seem to swatch well is the darkest shade, but that is because of my lackluster swatching skills rather than the shadow itself. With a primer these last on the eyes all day and I made two looks with the palette. The first look is just the palette, the second look sees it layered over a dark brown base color.

Used on its own, this palette is absolutely gorgeous in its own right. The color intensity may be a bit lackluster for some, but I like how this palette gives you a very wearable eye look. The main color here is red after all and that is usually a difficult color to pull off. It easily makes you look like you’ve got some eye disease, which this palette absolutely does not! The play of colors and the way they coordinate together is what makes this palette.

To show you how easily you can turn this palette into a reddish brown smokey eye, I layered the exact same look over a dark brown cream shadow. See how that intensifies the shades into a darker and smokier look? From the lid all the way to the crease, the reddish tones are emphasized and deepened up. For extra emphasis I smudged some dark brown liner on my lower lashline and used it to tightline for an even more intense effect.

There you have it: how 4 seemingly bland and basic shades can look so different. And that is exactly why I love this Chanel Les 4 Ombres 268 Candeur et Expérience eyeshadow palette. It is wearable, blendable and easy to amp up. With this palette on hand, you are not only trend with all the red shades, but you are also ready for every fall to come afterwards.
