Instanails #8

Time to show you some of my nail looks again. After a few weeks of painting my nails, I like doing these overviews to catalogue them and do mini reviews of some nail polishes. I haven’t been really into too many new colors as I feel my nail polish collection is pretty solid where it now stands. However, I have so many different colors that I could fill quite a few blog posts showing off these shades on my nails. So here is the round up of my nails in December.

My first look was what I wore on my nails for my work’s Christmas party. I wore Essie’s After School Boy Blazer which is a rich blackened navy blue. Over that I applied a gradient of two layers of Catrice’s Million Dollar Baby. To change it up, I added a sparkly gold nail polish on alternating nails. I used to do manicures like this all the time, with alternating colors, and I really like how it turned out. What do you think?

Part of Essie’s current winter collection is Go With the Flowy. This soft grey shade has a very subtle silver sparkle which gives it enough of a different look to justify adding it to your collection. I also like how the grey goes with my skin tone. Not all greys look flattering and this whitened soft grey looked so pretty. It’s what’s on my nails in my eyeshadow palette collection.

Another Essie polish I wore was Haute Tub. This dark polish is difficult to photograph. It has a blackened purple base with a subtle green shift and a red glitter running through it. There is a lot going on and it really depends on how the light hits it what it looks like. Definitely one of those polishes that keeps you staring at your nails all day.

A much more affordable Christmas inspired nail polish was this green number. I used a dark green by China Glaze which is called Holly-Day and part of one of their Christmas collection a few years ago. To keep the look Christmassy I opted for a very festive top coat. This is Let It Glitter’s Christmas Eve, which is quite possibly one of the most festive top coats ever.

Catrice Red Goes Nuts is such a stunning shade. In the bottle it’s one of those shades that looks a bit drab, but on the nail it looks quite classy. This muted brown toned red has a hint of shine which adds dimension and interest to an otherwise quite boring shade.

And after all that color and sparkle I was really feeling a nude nail polish the other day. Nails Inc White Horse Street is one of those shades that is very brightening on the nails. Unfortunately it didn’t last very long on my nails. I had to do this quite quickly and forgot to put on my Orly Polish Bond. I think that didn’t help, but one nail completely flaked off after a day. So not great for lasting power, but definitely a pretty shade.

What polish have you been wearing?

  1. […] Essie Haute Tub – Quite possibly the darkest shade that does look quite black at first sight, is Essie’s Haute Tub. Haute Tub is a very special shade and was also part of a limited edition collection. It has a deep purple base and green shift with red glitter. Sounds like a lot going on? It only shows up in certain lights. […]
