I love a good leave-in conditioner. My hair is dry and brittle and I simply cannot go without a good hair conditioner. It prevents my hair from looking like a Poodle just had a blow out. For yonks I used the Gliss Kur Oil Nutrive Serum spray. But then I ran out one day and decided to try this: Dove Advanced Hair Series Ultime Nourishment Supreme Creme Serum. Quite the mouthful, but I received it in a goodie bag and thought: why not?!
Dove Advanced Hair Series Ultime Nourishment Supreme Creme Serum
This cream serum is formulated for wavy and curly hair. And my hair is just that. Those waves you see are all my own. All I do to get them is take a shower and let it air dry. True story. But that does mean that my hair tends to be dry and frizzy quite easily. So any product that helps my hair to look healthy and shiny is very welcome. This serum is readily available from any drugstore and retails for €7.99.
The Packaging
The bottle this comes in is very handy. It has a pump that dispenses just the right amount of product. At first I thought this opaque packaging didn’t show you how much product you still have left. But then I turned it over and found that the bottom of the bottle twists up as you use it. This means that the bottom shows you just how much product there is. Still, a clear bottle would be even better, but at least it is helpful.
The Ingredients
As with any hair/ body/ skincare item, I am always curious about the ingredient list. Unfortunately, in this case, it isn’t much to write home about. Lots and lots of parabens and silicones. If those are products you avoid, then this is not for you. I am not too fussy when it comes to haircare. As long as it works, I’m all game.
The application
Ta-dah: the pump. I love how hygienic and easy to use this is. I mostly struggle with haircare products, but not with this one. With sprays I tend to not be able to spray the product where I want it to go, and I usually break the nozzle within days. I’m just not that lucky I guess? But this pump dispenser works great and it is easy to control how much product you use.
One thing I love about this product is that you only need the tiniest amount for it to work. I generally use a large pea size amount and rub it between my hands. Then I flip my hair upside down and apply it to my ends. I would avoid applying this too close to the scalp as it is quite thick and oily.
The Swatch
The amount I tend to use is what you can see in the picture. As you can see, once you spread it out, the white gloopy mess turns into a gel like texture. It feels very thick and creamy, yet emolient at the same time. It almost has an oily feeling to it.
The Conclusion
Do I love this product? Yes and no. I like what it does for my hair. It is easy to use and it has helped my hair stay looking nice. However, the downside to this product is the ingredient list. These just aren’t the best and if I compare it to my favorite serum spray by Gliss Kur, I think that has much better ingredients at a similar price point. I do like this enough that I am considering repurchasing this, but since I still have a back up of the Gliss Kur serum spray, it might very well take some time.
What is your favorite leave-in conditioner?
