When you are short like I am, then midi skirts may not seem an obvious choice of dress. So you can understand my skepticism when these first became massively popular. However, I decided to give it a whirl and lo and behold: the midi skirt worked! Over the course of time, I bought several midi skirts and today I would like to show you how I style them.
How I wear midi skirts
Midi skirts can be tricky as they are the awkward length that is difficult to get away with. Rather than hitting me midcalf, most of the skirts I’m about to show you hit me just above the ankle. I am short, so these things are long on me. The effect? A good, long line skirt that doesn’t drown your shape and actually elongates your lower body.

Skirt | Forever 21
Shoes | Primark
This first outfit is one of my favorites. I love anything highwaisted and this khaki skirt is just that. My favorite way of combining maxi skirts is by playing around with the different lengths. So I prefer something cropped with my midi skirts. Another thing I love about this outfit is how it is neutral, yet the print of the blouse makes it look more playful.

A classic! This vintage skirt has pleats and polka dots. What’s not to love?! This shows you, you can easily wear some prints on your bottom half as well. Just throw on some whites to freshen things up and you have a great spring time outfit.
Broderie anglaise

Skirt | ZARA

My favorite texture for the summer time: Broderie anglaise. I own several items of this material and this ZARA skirt is one of them. It is a very full skirt. Again, like with the first outfit, I prefer the skirt to be center stage in these outfits. So I added a scalloped cropped top and some black minimal heels to make the skirt stand out even more.
All things burgundy

Shoes | H&M
I love pairing burgundy with grey and this one of my favorite midi skirts as well. I wore it in my most recent lookbook, where I paired it with some more complimentary colors. However, I also love the clash of a light grey. Again, combining the top with the boots to create a uniform top and bottom half, so the skirt can do all the talking.

One of my favorite outfits in my wardrobe is this one! The blouse is a very lightweight, chiffon/ crepe material and in fact a very light creamy yellow. It sets off nicely against the skirt, which is made of a thick scuba material. Rather than playing with lengths, I like to play with textures in this one. For shoes, I always combine this outfit with a tan colored pair, but the style of shoe I wear varies.
