Styling brogues

Brogues are some of my favorite shoes to wear in the spring and summer time. I love the androgynous vibe they give to any outfit and I own several in different colors, just because I love them so much. Now if you don’t know what a brogue is, it is an oxford shoe, but with a distinct pattern on it and it’s a men’s wear staple. This is how I like to wear them.

The first outfit is one that comes closest to how these shoes are mostly worn by men. Either with jeans or a suit and a jacket and a shirt. This is a plain and simple outfit and I love how it blends a very masculine silhouette. I love those and I love how all the colors play together. The green compliments the blue of the jean and the tan shoes just finish off the earthy tones very nicely.

Possibly the comfiest brogues you could own are the Hambly brogues by Clarks. They are quite expensive, but they definitely wear like a dream. The soles in these are cushioned and it is like walking on clouds. I am still umming and arring about buying these in a plain black. The picture is a bit dark, but these shoes are actually a forest green and match the cardigan very well. They are made with three different types of leather: smooth, patent and suede and that gives these shoes and extra edge.

Now this outfit used to be a staple in my wardrobe. And then sadly after years of wear, the jacket started to fall apart last fall and I had to throw it out. Luckily I have this picture to document it. The shoes are what make this outfit I feel. These studded black leather brogues were a sale find at a whooping 80% off. They are a tad uncomfortable though, but after breaking them in, they are a great way of adding interest to an outfit.

I love wearing brogues with dresses: a clash between girly and boyish. And this outfit is no exception. I feel pinafores and easily look a bit young, but add a cool brogue and the outfit is immediately amped up a notch. If not for the type of shoe, then the shiny silver of these particular ones. Silver is a great neutral and the metallic element to them make them stand out a bit more. That’s why the rest of the outfit is quite simple, because these shoes are loud!

This outfit isn’t one I would wear in the spring time per se, but definitely in the fall time. These burgundy brogues are not really brogues but I stick them in the same category. They look a lot like a Dr. Marten but they are definitely a different shoe. They are equipped with a workman boot style sole as well though, so the comparison is quite easily made. I like wearing these shoes with skirts and blacks as I just feel they go very well with that look.
