Remember how I have been saying that 2018 would be the year that I would start wearing more colorful eyeshadow? Meet the first palette I got to try and fulfill that challenge. This is the PUR My Little Pony palette and it features a great blend between neutrals and colorful shades to create cohesive, wearable looks that work well for everyday, yet are still colorful.
PUR My Little Pony: The Movie eyeshadow palette
As far as I know, this palette was meant to be limited edition for the release of the My Little Pony movie late last year. But then it came back in stock on Beauty Bay and it has been every since. I got mine via that retailer and on Beauty Bay this palette retails for €28. For a more high end palette that is quite affordable and I had never tried anything by PUR until I tried this.
The packaging of the palette is not only cute it also very functional. The palette comes in a dark box with rainbow colors and the palette itself is white with a holographic print on the front. The fact that the palette is white is handy: it makes the shades stand out more and since it is wipeable, it doesn’t get messy either. There is a good sized mirror in the lid too.
In this palette you get a good mix of neutrals, colors, mattes and shimmers. There are 16 shades in the palette and the divide between mattes and shimmers is exactly half of each. The same goes for colorful shades and neutrals. What is especially clever about this palette is the layout. It may seem a bit haphazard at first, but in fact each row, column and even the diagonals and each block of 4 shades is a look. So in fact, this palette features over 15 different quads that you can use for creating a full eye look. Very cleverly done!
Having never tried anything from the PUR line, I was very curious as to what the formula would be like. While some of the shades, especially the mattes seem to be very thin and a bit chalky, I found all shades performed well on the eye. The shimmers are gorgeous, but they need a bit of help if you want them to show up intensely. Applying them with a finger or foiling them will certainly do the trick and give the shimmers a bit of an extra punch to it. These shadows blended well and stayed on the eye all day with an eye primer.
Look 1: Warm toned
Crease | Tempest Shadow
Transition | Honesty
Lid | Applejack
Inner corner | Kindness
Brow bone | Rarity
Lower lahs line | Honesty
For creating eye looks, I didn’t use any of the quads laid out in the palette. Rather I bounched around the palette and went by undertone instead. My first look with this palette already packs a lot of color as you can see. I only used a few of the neutral to ground the look, but everything else is color. I was dying to use that matte red shade and I love how that looks on the eye. The matte yellow was also a great shade to use.
Look 2: Neutral
Crease | Pinkie Pie
Transition | Generosity
Lid | Laughter
Brow bone | Rarity
Lower lash line | Magic & Fluttershy
Inner corner | Twilight Sparkle
And if we can put a matte red in the crease, then of course we can also do that with a bright pink. I already did that once with the Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons palette and really enjoyed that look, so I tried it here too. It worked really well. The rest of the look is quite neutral, even though I used every pink shade in this palette. To add a bit more of a fun pop of color I also added the purple on the lower lash line. See, color can be super wearable!
Look 3: Blue & Green
Lid | Rainbow Dash & Loyalty
Crease | Songbird Serenade
Lower Lash Line | Stormking
Inner corner | Princess Skystar
Brow bone | Rarity
For my final look, I knew I wanted to play with the blues and greens in the palette. As with the warm toned look, there are enough cool toned neutrals in the palette to ground the look and keep it from looking too crazy. I love the pop of blue and green on the lid and I appreciate the fact that one of the light shades in the palette is a shimmery mint green. Such a unique shade!
The PUR My Little Pony eyeshadow palette really surprised me. These shadows are good quality, perform well and I found it very easy to create looks with this despite the bright colors. There are some fun pops in here as well as neutrals which means this palette is very versatile. I love how it has some unique shades that you won’t find in many other palettes. This palettes gets two thumbs up from me!
