Recently I have felt as if not too many new lipsticks are being released. So I decided to try some older releases that I hadn’t gotten my hands on yet. One lipstick that has been out for some time, but that I hadn’t tried yet as Revlon is hard to get here, were the Revlon HD lipsticks. They are supposed to be super balmy and comfortable to wear and I put them to the test.
Revlon Ultra HD Gel Lipcolor
705 hd dawn, 760 hd vineyard, 745 hd rhubarb
I bought these from Superdrug when I was in London. These retail for £7.99 each but they were on offer when I got them. So these are quite expensive, but Revlon usually is on the more expensive side of the drugstore. I had heard so many people rave about these, but I felt apprehensive before trying them. Why? Because these are marketed as comfortable balm like lipsticks and I’m a drying, matte stay-all-day kinda gal. So I wasn’t sure this would be a match.
These lipsticks are twist up, stick like lipsticks. They have a slanted tip and I like that the packaging has the color of the lipstick. Other than that the packaging is quite simple and nothing I can say much about. I do think the clear lid might break after a while as that doesn’t feel too sturdy.
The shade that most people rave about from this line is HD Sands. HD Sands is a peachy nude, but when I saw it in store, I felt it wasn’t for me. A mauvy nude works much better for me usually. And that is what HD Dawn is! I love this shade on me. It is very much a my lips but better.
A berry is always a good pick if you ask me, so when I saw these in the display I was instantly drawn in by HD Vineyard. It is just a hair darker than HD Vineyard and another great neutral that just adds a touch more color.
I’m not going to lie: I bought this mainly because of the name. I love rhubarb and since this is a red, it was a match made in heaven. If a lipstick line has a red, which it usually does, I nearly always try the red. Red lipstick is my favorite!
Here you can see what these shades look like. They are a tad on the sheer side, but not much. As with most lipsticks I feel these apply better once you have gotten rid of the first layer of the lipstick.
These feel very smooth and creamy and are super comfortable on the lips. The lasting power of these isn’t too great. They do wear down quite quickly, but I’d say you will get a good 2 – 3 hours of wear out of these, which surprised me.
HD Dawn is, as I said, a my lips but better type of shade. I love how creamy this is and how healthy my lips look. I’ve been wearing lots of neutral lipsticks as I have been wearing my colorful eye looks so this has been my go to shade and one I grab for often.
On my lips, the difference between HD Dawn and HD Vineyard is much more noticeable. This is darker, but still neutral. This is such a great fall shade: it is berry, but not too intense. A great everyday shade for the fall time.
HD Rhubarb was probably the most surprising shade. I love reds, but I prefer them to be matte so they do not travel and pull into any fine lines around my mouth. I found however, that this did not do that. So despite the creamy formula, this does not travel outside my lip line, nor does it bleed.
I am very surprised by how much I like the Revlon HD gel color lipsticks. HD Dawn has become one of my go to lip shades and the creamy formula does not bleed, making even the red a very wearable lip color. They do not last the longest on the lips, but these feel great and I have found these to be great when your lips need a little bit of extra care.
