One of my Black Friday purchases was the Zoeva Premiere collection. Every year Zoeva has a great 25% off everything deal on their official website, so come Black Friday I watch their website like a hawk. And I found this collection. It features a small brush set, 3 of Zoeva’s new lip crayons, a face palette and an eyeshadow palette. Let’s have a look.
Zoeva Premiere Collection | Brushes, Lipstick, Face & Eyeshadow palette
This set is quite extensive and therefore not the cheapest. At €95 it is quite an expense to make in one go. However, you do get nearly a full face of makeup for that price and some brushes to apply everything too. Of course I got this set with a 25% discount, which meant I paid around €70 for all of these products. You can also buy each of these products individually so if you like just one of these than that is possible too.
The eyeshadow palette is €21.80. The face palette €14.80. The lipsticks are €10.50 each and the brushes range from €9.50 to €14.50 each. That means that if you were to buy each product separately you’d pay €112 for everything. So you get a bit of a discount if you buy the set at full price, but with a discount like I had, this really makes it worth it. I think it is a great way to try a bunch of Zoeva products if you are looking to try the brand.
The packaging of this collection is absolutely stunning. The theme of the collection is the silent movie era and the overall design is centered around that theme. The packaging is a stunning navy blue and as with many Zoeva products very slim and sleek looking. Everything is cardboard, but still feels sturdy. If you buy the full set, everything comes housed in a gorgeous box that you can easily reuse to store other bits and bobs. Let’s have a closer look at all these products.
The set comes with four brushes: 2 face brushes and 2 eye brushes. From top to bottom these are: 111 Petite Face Finish, 228 Luxe Crease, 232 Luxe Classic Shader, 134 Luxe Powder Fusion. I love Zoeva brushes and I am always looking to try some more. I already owned a Petite Face Finish brush which I love for buffing out highlighter. The surprise of this set was the 228 Luxe Crease: it is one of my new favorite crease brushes. And, dare I say it: it is on par with my MAC 217. The shade and powder brush are both nice and function well, but not ones I reach for regularly. They are good brushes nonetheless.
The Face Palette
Let’s look at that stunning inside of the palette. I love the attention of detail with this. The face palette features three different powder products. There is shimmer peach toned blush, a golden toned highlighter and a matte peach toned blush. In short, there is a lot here to play around with and apart from the highlighter I am sure that these shades will work on my cheeks.
Look at how stunning these swatches are. There is a good deal of shimmer here, but I like the shades of the blushes too. The highlighter looks very gold, but I was surprised that this looked a lot more natural when I applied it to the skin (see below). The blush shades look stunning and these blend easily and despite the intense pigmentation are not too intense on the skin.
See what I mean? If we start top left we see my face with just a bit of bronzer. On the right of that you can see the highlighter on my cheeks: it is not as intense as expected once applied with a brush. On the bottom are the two blushes: on the left is the matte blush and the right the shimmer version. Again, while they swatch intensely they apply very well onto the cheeks with a brush.
The Lip Crayons
The Zoeva Premiere collection also contains 3 lip crayons. This is a product that is new to Zoeva’s line. As far as I know, this is a new product to Zoeva’s line and they only have these three shades available. These were the products that intrigued me the least when I bought the set. I wasn’t really interested in them as they didn’t spark my interest. But these were quite possibly the biggest surprise.
As you can see there is a nude, a red and an orange. The orange has some glitters but these I didn’t see until I got the pictures ready for this blog post. So you can’t see the glitters in real life. What surprised me about these is the texture. These glide on like a balm, dry down like a liquid lipstick, stay put like a matte, yet feel comfortable all day. I don’t know what sorcery this is, but this is one of the best lipstick formulas I have tried in a long time.
Acoustic Feeling is the first Zoeva lip crayon. This nude is just perfect for me. I was afraid that it would be too peachy, but it works well on my lips. The pigmentation is spot on and this does not look drying on my lips, like some lip crayons can do. Because of the crayon format, these lipsticks are also super precise in their application. No lip liner needed.
The orange is quite wearable, which is unexpected. It is bright, but it has a brown undertone that makes this shade look less punchy and therefore makes this a great color for parties and other special occasions. Not for the faint of heart, but a good orange lipstick is hard to find and this pumpkin shade will look flattering on so many people.
Where would we be without a good matte red? I love them and in a collection inspired by the early 20th century silent movie era, a shade like this, of course could not be left out. I think this is the prettiest of the three lipsticks and since it is such a longwearing formula, I have no issue wearing this shade. It doesn’t bleed, it stays put and that’s what I need from a red lisptick.
The Eyeshadow Palette
The main reason why this collection piqued my interest? The eyeshadow palette of coure! If you know me, then you know I love Zoeva palettes and I have quite a few. I recorded my full collection a few weeks ago, so you can see the other palettes I have by Zoeva if you click here. The premiere collection palette is another great one by the brand. Do you spot that stunning shade in the bottom right corner? The palette is worth it just getting it for that one shade.
You don’t trust me? Well look at those swatches: isn’t this a stunning palette?! It is a rather boring shade selection otherwise, I’m not going to lie, but if you want a good neutrals palette that has more interest than a bunch of browns than this is worth a shot. There are 4 mattes, but they are all the right mattes. While some of the shades look quite boring, some of these are a lot more interesting than they look at first glance. Some have a slight shift to them that is quite unexpected. No matter how stunning the swatches, an eyeshadow palette has not been truly tested until you apply it to your eyes.
I used the copper in the middle of the top row, the matte mauve and burgundy shade and of course that stunning duo chrome shade.
That duo chrome people! It is stunning, but it is a shade that needs some extra TLC. It is quite chunky, flaky and soft, so you have to watch out for fall out. When you apply this to the eye, it gets ‘lost’ because you only really see it when the light hits it. That is why my eyes do not look identical in the full face picture: on eye catches the light, while the other does not. The mattes blend well and I love this look.
I used the matte brown, beige and greeny gold shades to complete this look. (Pretty much all shades I had left after the other look). I also pulled in the burgundy to create some depth.
Remember what I said about all shades looking boring, but being more interested than you might first expect? That is the case here. This look is perhaps a bit boring, but I like how they combine and I like how the golds have that hint of green to them. This makes for a nice grungy neutral look. I’m in love.
Nearly 1500 words later and I can only conclude that all the products in the Zoeva Premiere collection work really well. From the eyeshadow palette to the lip crayons and from the face palette to the brushes: each element works wonderfully. I would recommend waiting for a sale to get these products, but if one product in particular captured your fancy, then by all means bite the bullet and chase it down. These products are stunning!
