When I showed you my Shop my Stash yesterday, I raved about the new Catrice Clean ID Mineral Bronzer. This bronzer is another drugstore bronzer that has come out in recent times that stole my heart. I always struggled with drugstore bronzers as they were too dark, too orange and too muddy on my fair complexion. But finally brands have realized that you need different shades for pale people (now they just need to realize the same about people with a darker skin tone though) and Catrice is one of them.
Catrice Clean ID Mineral Bronzer // Review, Swatch & Application
You know I love Catrice as a brand. It is one of my favorite drugstore brands, but their bronzers had never been too successful for me. They were too orange mostly, only came in one shade and it just didn’t look great. So when they released this, I was skeptical, but the shade light/ medium is a good match for me. The fact that it costs €4.99 makes this a very attractive product. The fact that it only comes in two shades slightly less so.
The Packaging

The only thing I don’t like about this bronzer? The packaging. This bronzer is housed in a cardboard compact that is perhaps ‘clean’ (and therefore good for the environment) but it is not the sturdiest nor the prettiest to look at. It is held together by a cheap elastic that doesn’t help the look of this. Still, a makeup product isn’t all about looks of course, but it certainly helps. What counts is the product and I do think that is central here. I would have preferred a magnet rather than the elastic and possibly a mirror for on the go.
The Bronzer

When you look at this bronzer it doesn’t look that great. It looks a bit orange, it looks a bit dark and it looks muddy. But there is something about this bronzer that makes it blend smoothly and look very natural on the skin. Perhaps it’s because this bronzer is made out of 90% natural ingredients and is free of talc. The bronzer also has an SPF of 15 and boasts about being good for your skin. I can’t attest to that, but if it does have those benefits then it’s of course a nice extra.
The Shade

With only two shades available in Light/ Medium and Medium/ Dark, the shade selection is atrocious. If you are super fair then this will be too dark and the darkest one will be too light if you have darker skin. I think this mainly works for me right now because it is the end of summer and I have a bit more color than I do in the dead of winter. What I appreciate about this shade is that it has a yellow undertone and generally, I like bronzers with a yellow undertone. It means it will not turn orange or muddy as easily if you have a cooler skin tone.
The Swatch

Bronzers are difficult to swatch well if they work well I feel. You don’t want your bronzer to swatch as opaquely as it looks in the pan. With cheek products, I feel it is best if you can easily blend it out and it is less pigmented. That way you can more easily control how much you apply and build up the product if need be. That is my preferred way of using bronzer anyway. This is not the kind of bronzer that goes on, grabs on to weird patches and won’t blend out. This bronzer is easy to blend, makes for a good bronzed look and gives a true sunkissed glow.
The Application

See what I mean? I really like the effect this gives to my complexion. On the left you can see my face without bronzer. On the right is my face with nothing but bronzer added. As you can see, it adds a good healthy bit of color that looks very natural and is perfect for everyday. This is not the kind of bronzer that you use to create a snatched full glam Instagram look. No, this is the bronzer you pick up when you want that perfect office or school look which is what I prefer.
The Conclusion

Can you tell I am loving the Catrice Clean ID Mineral Bronzer? This is by far the most affordable drugstore bronzer that I have ever tried. No exaggeration. If you are looking for a good bronzer that is affordable and you can find a shade that is right for you, then this is a good one that I would highly recommend.
