Liquid highlighter, no scratch that, liquid anything if it’s a color product is not my favorite. So when I find one that I like, of course I need to rave about it. Meet Essence’s #Insta Perfect liquid highlighter. This is the liquid highlighter that beats all liquid highlighters. I have to admit, I haven’t tried that many, but as far as liquid highlighters go this is a very easy to use, beginner friendly, foolproof liquid highlighter.

So let me explain to you why this is such a great product. First of all: the price point. It’s Essence, so you know this is going to be affordable. Liquid highlighters can sometimes be expensive, as not many drugstore and budget brands do them. And if they do them, then they can be a bit glittery and not what you want. At just €3.59 this is the first affordable liquid highlighter I’ve tried that I have fallen in love with.
The Packaging
Secondly, the packaging is really small and easy to handle. Most cream and liquid products can be tedious to use as you always get too much or need to warm it up before you can apply it well. This is faff free as it comes in a very small squeeze bottle that allows you to control just the right amount of product. It is small and it is plastic with a twist cap which means this is also easy enough to chuck in a bag and travel with it.
The Highlighter
The third great thing about this highlighter is the actual product itself. This highlighter only comes in two shades: a gold and a rose gold. Both can work for many different skin tones. The liquid is very thin and easy to blend out. It dries down without it feeling sticky or weird and most importantly: it does not mess up your base underneath. This is easy to apply as well and the shade of this is very flattering on.
The Swatch
Fourthly, a little goes a long way with this. Just a drop blends out into a stunning, sheen onto the skin. It looks very gold and concentrated in the bottle but what I love about this is how it sheers out. After blending it in this makes you skin look like glass. It is not a metallic highlight that can be seen from space, it is more natural looking as if you are truly glowing from within. That is an effect that is easier to achieve with a liquid product to begin with, but this layered under foundation really gives that natural effect.
The Application
I already mentioned how easy this is to apply, but I also wanted to show you the difference this makes in a makeup look. My preferred way of applying this liquid highlighter is by putting a drop on the back of my hand and then loading the product into an ELF small stipple brush. I then dot it around the high points of my cheeks and then you get this effect. As you can see, the effect is there, but not too intense. You can wear this under or over liquid foundation and I feel this works well either way.
The Conclusion
The Essence #Insta Perfect Liquid Highlighter in Gold Addiction is such a great liquid product. It is definitely one of the very few liquid products I will reach for as I find it so easy to use. The effect is natural and it is easy to control how much product you use. It builds well into a blinding highlighter if you wish to do so as well. If you want to try a liquid highlighter without breaking the bank, then this is definitely worth a shot.
