What I Wore #11

what I wore fall fashion outfit 2019

It is time to talk fashion again. In the past few weeks I have been snapping a picture again every now and again of outfits that I have been wearing. For a while I wasn’t feeling super inspired, but then I hit a running streak and kept getting inspiration for different outfits. You will have seen some of these items in my recent fall fashion haul, so high time to show you how I have been wearing them and what my autumn style has been like so far.

If you saw that haul then you will know that I am currently really into bottoms: jeans, trousers, skirts you name it! That is what currently tickles my fancy. So trust me when I say that most of these outfits started with the bottom half. I have lost a bit of interest in dresses for the moment, but I am sure my love for dresses will come back once the holidays roll around. For now, I am really loving a more masculine vibe, with chunky boots, tailoring and lots and lots of blouses and cardigans.

Outfit no. 1 is a bright number that definitely got some comments from my colleagues. I wore this on a non-teaching day as I felt it would have been too distracting for classes on more complex grammar. That said I spotted this color combination as being ‘on trend’ for fall 2019 and I decided to try and make it work. I think the combo of the pink and red makes for a nice clash of colors, but still oddly wearable. I did go for a black shoe to try and keep at least one thing a bit more normal.

Fall is the season for cardigans and they are currently totally on trend too. I bought a few over the past few months to update my cardigan collection and this deep petrol shade just spoke to me the minute I spotted it. It goes so perfectly with higher rise jeans as it hits me at just the right spot. The jeans were also an absolute winner of my recent haul. I wore these for nearly two weeks straight: I didn’t want to take them off, so that’s why you will find another outfit with them below.

One of my favorite ways of wearing color is by combining a fun pop with an all black or black and white outfit. This is about as basic as it gets, but I feel the mustard yellow takes it to the next level. Just a black pair of skinnies with a black and white top for some print and then the cardigan for a pop of color. An outfit like this just always wins! I also love the shoes. They are a bit difficult to see perhaps but they are a Chelsea boot with a chunkier sole which I think went well with this outfit.

For some people this outfit may be a bit matchy matchy but I like how the tights and the shoes match almost perfectly. The burgundy is reflected in the dress and it is a perfect floral print for the fall time. The murky green base with the muted color of the flowers makes that this works well for that dark floral dress trend that’s been going on. I do find it difficult to layer something over it as it is quite a busy print. However, it has short sleeves so it needs an extra layer. This textured beige cardigan was perhaps a bit extra but I liked the overall look.

Talking of extra, I wore this to work and lots of students loved it! I bought this neon pink shirt by ZARA over the summer but didn’t quite know how to wear it. It has a weird scuba like material so it was too thick for summer and so I saved it for the fall time. I then found this silver bomber jacket and I felt it could make for that 90s Spice World the Movie vibe. That’s what I was going for with this anyway. And to my surprise it worked out quite well. I decided to go for party at the top, plain and boring at the bottom, with dark blue jeans a the simplest pair of boots in my collection.

And last but not least an outfit that showcases that sometimes it is good to hand on to items. I bought this skirt in the spring time but hadn’t worn it yet. The rich emerald green screamed fall to me though and I had this vision of pairing it with this super oversized black sweater. I love the clash between the sleek skirt and the chunky knit as well as the clash of textures: the knit is bulky, the skirt satin and shiny and the shoes have texture to them as well. They are the woven shoes I showed in my fall fashion haul.

  1. That yellow sweater with zebra pattern is a great idea! I had this bright yellow sweater I didn’t know what to pair it with. I’m good at picking out clothes, but then I need inspiration on what to pair things with. Oh yeah and I really like that C&A dress with the fuzzy cardi, so cute. 🙂

    • Thanks! I love thinking in pops of color or complimentary colors or prints whenever I put an outfit together. I also try to think in contrasts in terms of color, textures or lengths. I find this works well.
