What I Watched & New Youtube Channel

Let’s do a bit of an update, because I haven’t been blogging much these past few weeks. So before I am going to update you on some of the movies and series I have been watching lately, I am first going to update you on the blog and my youtube channel.

So for a few weeks there were little to no blog posts as my uploading service where I upload my pictures was down. This meant I wasn’t able to really make any blogs as I don’t have that much space left on my WordPress account and I only want to use that in emergencies. But we are now back in full swing and so reviews are back again!

Secondly, I wanted to take this opportunity to announce that I have started a Booktube channel! I will be posting one video a week on Fridays at 6 PM CET. I am not sure yet what that will mean for my Friday blog posts. For now I want to try to keep them going. I for instance am working on gathering enough pictures for a What I Wore blog post, which hopefully goes up next week. That said, to upload a video and a blog post on one day may be a bit much, but we’ll see how it goes.

What I Watched

On to what this blog post was supposed to be about: what I watched. I was very dedicated to watching full series that I hadn’t or had not yet watched much of such as Peaky Blinders and Downton Abbey. But that meant I was ‘behind’ on new series. So in the past 2 months I have tried to catch up. I wasn’t reading much, but I watched a lot.

The Crown Season 3

I love The Crown as a series and I was excited for the third season. Olivia Coleman! Helena Bonham Carter! Such great actresses and I felt the series, despite the change in the cast, did a great job at keeping the vibe of the series going. I loved it as much again as the first two series and I can’t wait for the next one.

The Irishman

This long, slow burner of a movie was one that had everyone talking. I didn’t like the CGI aging techniques used, but I liked the story as a whole. I generally enjoy gangster stories and this one really tells the tale from start to finish. It is a slow movie that is very atmospheric, is driven by dialogue and definitely goes against the grain of most movies and series produced nowadays.

The King

I am not going to lie. I watched this because it has Robert Pattinson on the bill. I have been following his career since his Twilight days and I have seen most of his movies if I can. It is a Henry the IV & V by Shakespeare retelling and I didn’t realize this until I was watching it. Netflix does not seem to be marketing it as such and I would have been even more enticed if they had. I thought some of the acting was stellar especially the young actor playing Henry. Not the best movie I ever watched, but definitely enjoyable.

The Laundromat

In December I was ill, so after a few days of bingeing some series and movies, I was a bit stuck. This was recommended by Netflix and I decided to give it a watch. It has Meryl Streep, Antonio Banderas and the magnificent Gary Oldman. The story was cleverly told and one that is important to tell. It is about a lady whose husband dies on their 45 wedding honeymoon and instead of getting the life insurance money she is scammed out of it by these large shell corporations. The fact that it all truly happened, is all the more extraordinary.

Whenever I’m ill I like lighthearted movies and I had seen Paddington being added to Netflix and watched it. It is by far one of the most heartwarming movies I have seen in years. It is truly a great story, features some great actors and it definitely makes you laugh out loud a lot. Especially since I had just watched Downton Abbey and the actor playing the Earl in that series is the dad in this movie and that made things even more hilarious.

Carnival Row

After all that Netflix stuff, I switched to my Amazon Prime account to see if it had anything differently. Amazon has also been producing some original series and one of them is an 8 part fantasy series starring Orlando Bloom and Cara Delavigne. And I really liked it. The story is about a detective in a fantasy world where he tries to solve crimes against fairies in an unsavory part of town. At the same time fairies are pouring into town as they are being hunted like animals in their native lands. Truly well done story and I liked the atmosphere this had with some nods to steampunk.

Love Actually

I went into this not knowing whether I had ever watched the whole thing. I definitely saw snippets at times, but I just didn’t remember much of the whole movie. I watched it the weekend before Christmas and it definitely got me in the Christmas spirit. Not one I will watch again any time soon, but definitely another feel good movie that I liked.

6 Underground

Quite a bit of a switch but if it features Ryan Reynolds in an action flick with fast cars and a ridiculous story line I’m in! I sometimes love a brainless action flick with bad jokes, too long fighting scenes and a banger of a soundtrack. That’s what this movie has and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Don’t F with Cats

This series was recommended to me by my massage therapist. He said: I’m not going to say anything other than watch it. And he was right. This is one you have to see. Not for the faint of heart though.

The Movies that Made Us

Another recommended series was this one and as it featured 4 movies I loved to watch growing up, I decided to watch it. If you liked Dirty Dancing, Ghostbusters, Home Alone or Die Hard, then this is a much watch.

Queer Eye: We’re in Japan

The fourth series by Queer Eye and I just love these guys. If you are in need for some positivity, self acceptance and some stellar makeover, then this is for you. Feel good TV at its best.

The Witcher

And then during Christmas break it was time to for something more dark and mysterious. I had seen the announcements for this and I think Netflix has brought in a winner with this series. This is one of the best things they have produced in a long time. Yes, this is better than Stranger Things. I loved how there are no explanations at the beginning and the story just starts and you need to piece everything together as a viewer. I liked the action, I liked the scenery, I liked the acting, I liked the storyline. So sad that season 2 hasn’t even been filmed yet. Can’t wait for the next one.

What have you been watching?
