Are you ready for an exciting review? I sure am! The minute I spotted these limited edition eyeshadow palettes on Catrice’s Instagram, I knew I would have to keep an eye out. Why? Because it’s Disney. Because it’s Catrice. Because it’s eyeshadow palettes. This collection also came with some nail polishes but those I skipped on as I am not into nail polish at the moment. That said, these eyeshadow palettes took me by surprise. You don’t believe me, then watch my first impression with these in this video.
Review: Catrice x Disney Minnie Mouse & Daisy Duck limited edition eyeshadow palette
Of course these were super difficult to find. Catrice said that they would be out in March in The Netherlands but I couldn’t find them anywhere. Until I spotted on Kosmetik4Less. This is a German website that ships internationally and they get a lot of the limited edition Essence and Catrice stuff that is harder to get here. I also heard that these may be out in May instead, so perhaps Catrice’s information was off, or perhaps these palettes are delayed due to the whole pandemic situation. Who knows? On the website where I bought these, these were €8.95 each. Currently the Daisy Duck palette is still in stock. The Minnie Mouse palette is only available in a box set featuring some brushes and the polishes. They also do a similar box for the Daisy Duck palette.
Catrice X Disney Daisy Duck eyeshadow palette

Let’s start by having a closer look at the Daisy Duck palette. You can hopefully tell why I wanted to own these palettes without even knowing what the inside looked like. The palettes have some of the best design Catrice probably ever did. They are simple yet cute and the palettes each have the drawing of the character they represent on them. The Daisy Duck palette also has a slight lilac tint to it and as you can see that goes well with what is going on inside.
What does the Daisy Duck palette have to offer?

Wah! Exactly my color story! This is a 9-pan palette that centers around cool toned neutrals and some plums and purples. There are 6 mattes and 3 shimmers. It is a very well-curated palette if you ask me. In my opinion it features just the right amount of mattes and shimmers to create a good look and while very neutral, you do get the pops of color needed to add a touch of something more interesting.
What is the color story like?

So as you can see this is a cool toned lover’s dreams. This features mainly cool and neutral toned eyeshadows. the only shade that is a bit more warm is Cheery. That seems to have a touch of burgundy to it. Diva is a stunning purple. Dazzling looks like a stunning mauve and Jolly is a cool plum shade. I like Sassy the most in this palette: it is a standard champagne, but it is easily the best shimmer in this palette.
What does the palette swatch like?

The finger swatches are not super impactful, but just impactful enough. The mattes are easy to build up and blend. So even though these don’t look that exciting, I still felt these were easy enough to work with. The shimmers were the ones that were the most difficult to work with. It is not impossible, but they do need building up and foiling and some wet brush action for them to go on. Dazzling especially took a bunch of layering for it to show up.

The final look that came out when I used all 9 shades was very successful overall. Dazzling pulls a bit darker on the lid than I had expected, but Diva is a stunning bright pop of purple for the lower lash line. This is quite possibly the most perfect palette for people who like neutrals but who are looking to venture out and add a pop of something different. This palette has very workable, easy to apply quality that I love. This is quite possibly my favorite of the two as a stand alone palette simply because it is my favorite color story of the two.
Catrice X Disney Minnie Mouse eyeshadow palette

So what does the Minnie Mouse palette have to offer? If the Daisy Duck palette is cool toned, then it perhaps is no surprise that Minnie gets to have a warm toned color story. This palette also brought a very pleasant surprise: it features a stunningly unique duochrome shade. Yes, Catrice is now doing duochromes. Who knew?!
What does the Minnie Mouse palette have to offer?

Like the Daisy Duck palette, this features 9 shades, but as you can see this is warm toned. There are 5 mattes and 4 shimmers so perhaps a bit of a better shade selection in terms of the ratio of mattes vs shimmers. This palette also has some more color variety going on with peaches and reds and some more neutral shades. This is definitely the more unique one of the two palettes.
What is the color story like?

In terms of color story I felt that Witty looks a bit out of place as it seems like a very random cool tone in a pool of warm. However, I found it worked well as a blend shade and if you have both of these it makes for a pretty crease shade to supplement the Daisy Duck palette. Legendary, Loving and Hearty are the shades that make this palette warm. The other shades are sometimes quite similar to what you have in the Daisy Duck. So ideally, you can just choose between the two and call it a day. You really don’t need both of these to create a look.
What are the swatches like?

Like the Daisy Duck palette the matte swatches are not the greatest. But again, these blend well and are easy to build up. I personally prefer a sheerer shadow that I can build up than one that is super pigmented and difficult to blend. You can always layer these over a sticky base to make them more vibrant. But the shimmers is where it is at with this one. Do you see that Iconic shade on the far left side? Stunning rose gold. But the shade that takes the cake is Loving: a super interesting duochrome shade that shifts from red to orange to pink.

This is the final look I did using all 9 shades. This is vibrant, intense and a bit easier to work with than the Daisy Duck palette. In terms of quality I think this is the better one. It is also the more unique one. However, how often will you be wearing a red duochrome. Perhaps not all that much. So I think if you are looking for a good basic palette then the Daisy Duck is a good one. If you want to go for something more unique, then the Minnie Mouse will be much more up your street.
My final thoughts
These two palettes completely live up to my expectations. They bring me exactly what I had hoped they would bring me when I spotted them online. I am currently really into smaller palettes and these treat me to two nicely curated 9-pan palettes that definitely tickle my itch for neutrals with a more unique twist. These are also spot on in terms of Catrice eyeshadow quality even though some of the shimmers were a bit difficult to work with. Love these.
Would I recommend the Catrice X Disney Daisy Duck & Minnie Mouse eyeshadow palettes?
If you can find these then yes. They have the cuteness factor going for them, so they may be harder to find as these are of course limited edition. Are these absolute ‘can’t live without it’ must haves? No. But it’s Disney man! Who doesn’t like a bit of Disney in their lives? I sure do and that is why, I do recommend these palettes.
