Peripera Ink Airy Velvet lipstick review

Another day, another lipstick review. I really hope I can catch up on these as I really neglected reviewing any lip products for a while. And it’s not that I didn’t try anything really good, but I just know what I love and that’s what I was focusing on using. That’s a shame, because it meant I kind of neglected this excellent lipstick by K-beauty brand Peripera. I already fell in love with their corrector in the spring time, but I also loved using their Ink Airy Velvet Stick in Warmy Red.

Review: Peripera Ink Airy Velvet Lipstick in 08 Warmy Red

This lipstick was also part of a haul I did filled with K-beauty earlier this year. This lipstick was quite affordable and as all the Asian beauty products I tried, I got it from YesStyle. I paid €8.30 for this lipstick and that is with a bit of a discount. In total this lipstick is available in 17 different shades, but they aren’t always in stock. 08 Warmy Red is described as a red that is perfect for everyone. The question of course is: is it?

What does this lipstick have to offer?

So this lipstick comes with lots of interesting claims. It is apparently infused with marshmellow root extract to achieve a velvet matte finish. It is supposed to give a soft and airy look (which I take to mean blurred) with a marshmellow like texture that feels smooth and soft on the lips. It is supposed to minimize the look of lines on your lips and every shade in this line should flawlessly match your complexion. Additionally, it is supposed to be a long-wearing formula. It almost sounds too good to be true.

What is the shade of this lipstick like?

I got this in the shade Warmy Red which is describe as a ‘cool reddish brown’. This lipstick can be applied in two ways: full on or just a little bit in the center of the lip and then blurred towards the edges. Warmy Red is not what I had expected when I ordered it. It is warm toned red for sure so the name is apt, but the shade description had me think this would be deeper, perhaps more neutral leaning. Instead, this is quite a vibrant shade and if you wear this full on (see below) you easily get a warm toned red lipstick similar to other colors I have tried. However, this lipstick still has something unique to it and that is the texture.

What does this lipstick look like in a swatch?

In a full on swatch you can more clearly see what this shade is like. It is a red, but with a warm undertone. It is a velvet matte texture: it looks super matte on. But at the same time, this feels creamy and still very wearable. You can also see at the edge that this lipstick would work well as advised: as a blurred look. This is the kind of lipstick that sheers out when it wears down or if you do not apply it full on. This is not the kind of lipstick that will give you a very sharp lip line but instead, it is perfect for that blurred lip look.

What does this lipstick look like on?

Warmy Red looks great on, but once applied to the face I don’t think this lipstick to be all that special. I like the texture as it is pillowy soft but without drying your lips. As you can see you can easily where this as a ‘conventional’ lipstick but you can also make it look blurry if you prefer. So the versatility promised by the brand is certainly there, but the shade is perhaps too vibrant for me to desire wearing it in any other way than a full on red. It does feel really smooth, but the lip line smoothing effect this boasts about I don’t find anything different than other lipsticks I have tried.

My final thoughts

The Peripera Ink Airy Velvet Stick is a good lipstick, but not groundbreaking. Warmy Red is a pretty shade, but I have tried many reds and while this one is yet again different it is not a shade unique enough to really stand out against other warm toned reds I already own. Do I think this can be universally flattering as promised? Yes. Does this have a matte formula that is comfortable, long-wearing and easy to wear? Yes. However, so do Catrice Demi Matt lipsticks and those are half the price of this lipstick. In short, I have tried other lipsticks with similar formulas and colors that are just as good as a more affordable price point.

Would I recommend the Peripera Ink Airy lipstick?

This is definitely a good lipstick, but it may be a bit harder to get as you will have to buy this online. And then I always ask myself: is it worth going out of my way to get my hands on this product at this price point? And then the answer for me would be no. If I hadn’t already bought this I don’t think I would purchase it again and I am not necessarily lusting for me. It is a good product, but not one that stands out from the crowd.

What is the last product you thought was okay, but not mind-blowing?

  1. I got the Becca Prismatica Highlighters in a set of 3 minis: “Vanilla”, “Rose Quartz” and “Champagne Pop”. The minis come in very cute, small, easy to carry compacts. The highlighter is great quality, but not mind-blowing for me. Good, but not excellent. However, I’m probably not the best judge of highlighter in general since no matter how I apply it, it just doesn’t show up on me.
