Have I found a new favorite cleanser? It could be! After trying the Good Molecules cleansing balm and loving it, I decided to try some others that would be easier for me to get. Because while I love that product, it isn’t available in store to me and the only place to buy it from is Beautylish. So why not go back to an OG favorite skincare brand of mine: The Body Shop. I had had some success trying some of the other products in the Camomile line, but the cleansing balm I had yet to try. Let’s see how I fared.
Skincare review: The Body Shop Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter
If you are new here, you may not be aware yet, but I am a big lover of TBS skincare. In fact, I found this old blog post from 2014 where I show my entire skincare routine at the time and the majority of the products are TBS. The TBS Aloe Vera line was the first skincare I found that didn’t make my skin reacts in weird ways and so I stuck by the brand ever since. I am not as loyal anymore as I used to, but I have my go tos that I always keep around no matter what because TBS products are some that I can go back to whenever I feel my skin needs it. A new product to me though was the Camomile Cleansing Balm which retails for €14 for 90 mls of product and therefore very similar to the Good Molecules one, which is $15 for 75 grams of product.
What does this cleansing balm have to offer?
The Camomile cleansing balm by The Body Shop has quickly become one of my favorite cleansers. I only discovered cleansing balms in 2020 when I decided to try the Good Molecules one. Before that, I did try some here and there (Lush Ultrabland stands out as one I used in the past), but I always felt they left a greasy layer and I still had to go in with a different cleanser for my eye makeup as nothing really was able to take off my waterproof mascara. It just ended up being a faff to use and so I stuck to micellar water for a loooong time. It was just quick and easy, but then I tried that Good Molecules cleanser and I was like: oh so a cleansing balm can be non-greasy and take off my makeup in one fell swoop. Luckily for me, the TBS one does that for me too and I may like it even better as it feels even more pleasant on my skin.
Why do I love this cleansing balm so much?
I already spoke of its availability and the sheer fact that I can go into TBS and buy this off the shelf makes it super easy for me to buy. However, that’s not the only reason why: I also think this product is really really good. The balm is very emolient and just melts onto the skin straight away. It only takes a little bit of product to take off all my makeup, so while this doesn’t come with a whole lot of product, I feel a tub actually lasts my a good little while. I really only need a dime sized amount and that’s all it takes. The product also feels very pleasant on my skin. There is no yucky greasy layer, yet it takes off all my makeup without making my skin feel dry and taut feeling after use. This is super gentle on the skin and I love it for that reason. Why didn’t I try this sooner?
What are the ingredients like?
So before we talk about how I like to use this product, let’s look at the list of ingredients first:
Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Synthetic Wax, PEG-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate, Olea Europaea Fruit Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii Butter, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopherol, Parfum, Aqua, Linalool, Limonene, Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Citric Acid.
Now with cleansers I am not too fussy when it comes to the ingredient list. This literally sits on my skin mere seconds and then I was it off. There are some nice oils and shea butter in here though but the main ingredient seems to be a fatty acid that is the emolient factor this product offers. It does contain perfume though so if you have super sensitive skin this may not be for you. But this is my second tub (which is now 2/3 of the way gone) and I haven’t had any reactions to it whatsoever.
How do I use this product on my sensitive skin?
That can be down to how I use this product though. I already mentioned that what I need a cleanser to do is cleanse my skin and that’s exactly what I do. Now I know many people will double cleanse: once to take off makeup/ grime of the day and a second one to actually cleanse the skin. Unfortunately when I do that, my skin starts too feel very dry and my skin becomes reactive, so I just tend to use this. What I do is I take some of the product, warm it up in my hands and then rub it all over my face to break down the makeup. I then splash my face with warm water, rubbing the water into the cleanser (gently off course) to ensure some of the makeup is already coming off. Then I go in with a muslin cloth to wipe everything off. I may only be using one product to cleanse my face, but I feel these three steps still mean I cleans my face well enough.
My final thoughts
The Body Shop has done it again! That is: giving me a product I know I will always want to keep on my skincare shelves. This product is lovely, does exactly what I need it to do and it is easy for me to get a hold of. It cleanses my face exactly the way I want it and it takes off makeup like a dream. It is economic in its use and the product is also easy to carry when you travel, because even the large size is a slim tin that is easy to pack. It takes off a full face of makeup in mere seconds and it has really taken my beauty routine to the next level. In short: what is not to love?
Would I recommend The Body Shop Camomile cleansing balm?
Yes! This product is great and I recommend you try it if you are in the market for a new cleaser. I love it for taking off makeup mostly though. I don’t think I would use this if you are not a makeup wearer or if you were hoping to use this as a first cleanse in the morning, then I don’t think I would recommend this product as it is a bit too heavy for that purpoles

Great review, I love this cleanser too. I sometimes switch between this one and the chamomile oil cleanser version. Equally as good!
I tried the oil and liked it, but sadly mine leaked badly and it became quite messy to use.
I tried this last year and enjoyed it! Along with Clinique’s Take the Day Off balm it’s the best cleanser, I love cleansing balms too 😊
I don’t love the Clinique (reviewed it a few weeks ago) as I have to use so much to get the job done. I went through it far to quickly to warrant the price point.
