Colourpop Blush Crush eyeshadow palette review

I though that during the month of August I could squeeze in a few more Colourpop eyeshadow palette reviews as well. I have been trying a bunch of their monochromatic palettes in recent years and it’s just time to get those reviews out. Not all the Colourpop monochromatic palettes are created equal and the Blush Crush palette is one that I wasn’t actually interested in. In fact, I didn’t buy this palette. It was gifted to me. So this color story is one I wasn’t actually hunting down myself. However, I was gifted it by someone who said: try it! I wanna know your thoughts, so that’s what today’s blog post is about. Let’s get started.

Review: Colourpop Blush Crush eyeshadow palette

So this is another Colourpop palette and I will sound like a broken record to those of you who have read all of my reviews of these palettes so far. But these palettes retail for $14 (I believe they used to be $12, so they have gone up in price) and that’s affordable but if you are not in the US, you have to be careful when you choose to buy from the brand. The only place to get the brand internationally is through their official website and you have to take into account shipping and handling fees. This is why I like to make sure I can buy enough in one go to make it all worth it. I would not recommend buying just one product from the brand as it can get a bit more expensive than buying a few items that qualify for free shipping and wait for a 25 – 30% off sale to make it worth it in the end.

What does this palette have to offer?

Colourpop describes this palette as a soft mauve rosy toned palette. Tome, this is a pink palette. A soft, dusty rose pink palette. It’s pretty but I struggle making these kind of pinks work on me. They are a bit more warm leaning and on my cool to neutral undertone that doesn’t really work too well. The palette is also very very light, so in terms of inclusivity this isn’t the best palette either. The colors are soft and there is not that much variation in shades and then there is one random very deep shade. So that’s why I originally never was interested in trying this. It’s pretty, but just not really for me.

What is the color story like?

So this is a soft rosy toned palette. On me it pulled very pink and it kind of make me look a bit sickly I felt. You get three shimmers, everything else is matte. The dark shade, blush wine, has sparkles, but those are in the shade to help it blend: they won’t show up when you use the shadow on your eyes. The three shimmers you get are the main reason why this palette is a let down for me. Why? Because I live for a good shimmer and these are more like satins than actual incredible metallics. So even the shimmers are soft. I reorganized my Colourpop palettes last May and I ended up just keeping one shade out of this entire palette and decluttered the rest.

How does the palette swatch?

Now you can see quite well here what I mean in terms of why I feel this palette is a bit lackluster for me. I am very fair and about four of these shades nearly blend away against my skin tone. So this palette doesn’t have great versatility. Quality wise it is a good palette though. These blend well, are well-pigmented and overall performs well. But it’s soft and that makes this a bit of a one trick pony and with these shades not being the best in terms of undertones, this palettes just wasn’t it for me.

What does this look like applied to the eyes?

Can you tell I used all 9 shades to create this look? I certainly can’t! Is it pretty though? Yes! It’s soft, pretty and great for everyday. The pink in the middle is just not the best for me and I don’t have enough shades to create any sort of definition save for a deep plum that I can only use as liner. I wish there was something a bit more mid toned that could help deepen up looks and create more shading in the crease and along the lower lash line. The shimmers are just a bit lackluster and aren’t as vibrant as I would want them to be. They kind of blend away into nothing and I would like at least one of them to really pack that extra punch.

My final thoughts

The Colourpop Blush Crush eyeshadow palette was not my first pick to buy from the brand when it comes to their monochromatic palettes. I am glad I got to try it and I can see that this is a palette that could be a love for people who love soft pinks or who otherwise love a soft everyday palette. Because that is what this is. It’s just not what I was looking for and I have highlighted some of my critiques above. I like it for what it is, but now that I have tried it I know why I would never have bought this with my own money.

Would I recommend the Colourpop Blush Crush eyeshadow palette?

I think this palette can be right for a score of people. If you have a fair skin tone with a warm undertone and want some soft pinks: this may be one to try! However, if you are more cool/ neutral leaning this is not a great one and I feel that if you are anything deeper than a MAC NC/ NW20 this is no longer going to show up great on your skin tone. So it is a pretty one, but it has its limitations and if you feel this is right for you, you would buy yourself a good quality palette at an affordable price point. Just think before you buy and decide whether this color story is right for you (as always)!

What was a palette you tried that just wasn’t your favorite?

  1. Glad you reviewed it and enjoyed one shade enough to keep it together with the pretty packaging. I think of it as more of a companion than as a stand alone palette. It made up for a nice soft look.
