I have a super exciting review for you today. We are taking a closer look at the Oden’s Eye Solmane eyeshadow palette and at the moment Oden’s Eye is one of those indie brands that is taken the makeup world by storm. Solmane is one of their older palettes and one of the initial launches of the brand. This may not be the newest of the new palettes, it is a good one and if you were looking into Oden’s Eye and what the brand offers in terms of quality, then I think this review may also help you to decide on that.

Review: Oden’s Eye Solmane eyeshadow palette

I love reviewing indie brands and trying them out, but it can get costly as many of them are located int he US. Luckily for European makeup enthusiasts, Oden’s Eye is based in Sweden and their products are shipped directly from their manufacturer in China. This means their shipping is reasonable, no matter where you are in the world, and their palettes aren’t overly expensive either. This one retails for €24.90.

What does this palette have to offer?

The Oden’s Eye Solmane eyeshadow palette is inspired by the sun and the moon. If you’re unfamiliar with Oden’s Eye, it may be good to know that they take their inspiration from Old Norse mythology (hence the brand name). So it makes sense for this brand to put out this palette. There is a good range of mattes and shimmers in this one: a 50/50 split. Some of the shimmers are even duo chromes, but you don’t really see that unless you swatch them. That to me makes for a great selection as I love when a palette has some variety in textures.

What is the color story like?

As you can see this is a 12-pan color story ranging more neutral with some warm tones, some cooler tones and a pop of lavender. There are two duochromes in the palette: the bottom shimmer in left column of shimmers and the middle shade in the far right column. There are two mustardy browns that I feel are a bit too similar and we don’t get anything that is super deep that could help with making more versatile looks. I would have preferred it if the palette had a deep matte cool toned brown instead of one of those mustards. Then this color story would be even more perfect as now the darkest shade you get is a shimmer.

How does the palette swatch?

As you can see here the pigmentation is on point: it is intense and shadows are impactful. The mattes are smooth and easy to blend, but they do have a bit of kickup. The shimmers are lovely but you do have to sometimes use a finger or foil the shades to get the impact of a finger swatch. Especially some of the duochromes can be a little bit harder to pick up with a brush. Now I personally don’t mind using my fingers, in fact, I always use my fingers with a shimmer shade to intensify it, but if you don’t like that technique, then this may not be your kind of palette.

2 Look, 1 Palette

Of course I created some looks to try out every single shade. I instantly knew I wanted to use the lavender as a pop of color on the lower la0hs line and I wanted to give the two duo chromes their chance to shine.

Look 1: a pop of lavender

The first look I created was an instant hit. I really enjoyed how this went on, how the shadows applied and how the look came together. The duochrome I used all over the lid is the one in the bottom of the left column of shimmers. It has a nice golden/ green sheen and I like how it goes well with the warm mustard brown in the crease, but at the same time the hint of green contrasts nicely with the pop of lavender on the lower lash line. This is also a really good matte lavender shade. Those can be tricky at times, but as you can see: this truly packs a punch.

Look 2: Murky tones

For my second look, I mainly focused on the shimmers on the right side of the palette. This created a darker, murkier look which I also very much enjoyed. However I did feel some of the shimmers here didn’t shine as brightly as they could have done. I therefore feel this look is a little less unique and something I can get with many other palettes. However, the shades are nice and I like how the look turned out.

My final thoughts

Oden’s Eye is an indie brand to look out for. They have been releasing some really good things, but it is also good to revisit their OG products as well. And this palette is really good. Is it as unique as some other things on offer from the brand by now? Perhaps not, but I like how this palette is a more neutral palette with some interseting pops. I can definitely see myself going back to this palette to use it more. And if the brand comes out with another interesting release I may even go as far as to purchase some more.

Would I recommend Oden’s Eye Solmane eyeshadow palette?

Yes and no! I guess it depends on what you’re looking for. If you are curious to try a new indie brand that is EU based, this is a good shot. Another person this may be good for is someone who is looking for a neutral palette but with a bit of a twist. However, if this color story doesn’t appeal to you, then I don’t think you have to go out of your way to purchase this.
