Catrice All Matt Shine Control powder review

Catrice updated their face powder in their Fall/ Winter 2021 collection and so I had to try it! This seems to be a revamped version of the All Matt Plus powder that already existed, but now this powder doesn’t just promise to mattify but also to give your face a healthy look and a natural glow. So they definitely have tried to update their standard powder to 2021 and add some properties we now look for in any powder. Overall, I tend to like Catrice face powders as they are cheap and cheerful and get the job done. The question is: does this one too?

Review: Catrice All Matt Shine Control powder Natural Glow Healthy Look 100 Neutral Fresh Beige

First difference I noticed is the fact that this powder only comes in two shades and both are skin tone shades. There is no translucent or transparent shade, which isn’t a bad thing per se but that might make it limiting as to who could use this powder. At this price point however, this is a powder that I think can appeal to many people. At just €3.59 you get 10 grams of product which is good for a face powder. The packaging is fuss free and easy to use and store. So what’s not to love?

What does this palette have to offer?

On the back of the pan this product is described as a mattifying powder that should give a subtle glow. It should therefore set your makeup in place, but still look natural on the skin. The powder has a stunning design in the way it is pressed into the pan and the promises on this and the way it performs it definitely reminds me of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders. Is this a straight up dupe? Not necessarily but I do like this a lot better than the original version of this powder as this is much better with my skin tone and a not as hard pressed.

How does this powder perform?

My main gripe with the original version of this powder was the fact that it was way too mattifying on my dry skin. It made my skin look horrible as it made my makeup look very cakey. The formula of this powder feels very differently from the original: there is a lot more kick up than I remember there being with the first version and this actually blends into my skin really well. It is a good bog standard powder that gets the job done. It definitely is a mattifying powder, but one that isn’t too flat and I really enjoy using this powder on the daily.

How does this powder swatch?

Can you even tell where I swatched this powder on the back of my hand? A great way to tell whether a powder will look nice on my skin is if it barely shows up in a swatch. This barely shows up in the swatch: so that’s a good sign. There is a slight sheen to the swatch so that had me excited but with any powder what truly matters is how it performs on the face. And also there this powder doesn’t disappoint.

How does this product apply?

To show you the full effect I present to you my face without powder (left) and my face with powder (right). I think this shows you the effect. On the left you can see my skin doesn’t look as even but the powder, because it has a skin tone shade, nicely blends into my foundation and concealer. The picture on the right also looks a bit more matte but not flat. It’s not that obvious that I am actually wearing powder. It just made my makeup look a bit more even and perfected, almost like an airbrushed effect.

My final thoughts

The Catrice All Matt powder is a case of: yes they not only rereleased this but the new version is an actual improvement of the original. And with Catrice, who refreshes their line every 6 months, that is not always the case. So I am happy to conclude this powder is different. I feel like this powder works very well for the price point and beyond. Is it my favorite powder ever? No, but this gets the job done without making your makeup look cakey or overly dry. It looks natural, stays put all day and nicely sets my makeup in place. That’s all I really need my powder to do.

Would I recommend the Catrice All Matt powder?

Yes I would! It may be a challenge to find your shade as there aren’t that many, but it is a good powder that will see you through the day. It works well on my dry skin and then powders can be quite difficult to get right. I like this one, I have been getting lots of use out of it as well. I have been using it non-stop ever since I put it in a shop my stash last month and I don’t want to stop using it until it is fully gone.

What affordable powder is your favorite?
