Made by Mitchell Blursh liquid blush review

In my journey to finding my favorite cream and liquid blush formulas, I sadly also made some mistakes. One such mistake? The Made by Mitchell Blursh in Where’s the SPF?. Is this a bad product? No! It is a stunner of a product. It just doesn’t really go with my makeup aesthetic and today’s review is therefore a negative one, but not because the product isn’t any good, but because this is far too intense for how I like to do my makeup. Not all pretty products end up being exactly right if you have a fair skin tone with a cool to neutral undertone like me.

Review: Made by Mitchell Blursh liquid cream blush Where’s the SPF?

I first heard of these products when I was randomly browsing Beauty Bay one day. Made by Mitchell is a brand created by an MUA and influencer who I wasn’t really following, but he did a few collabs that got lots of raving reviews and then decided to start his own makeup line. I thought it might be fun to try something differently so I ordered mine through Boozyshop for €16.95. Not cheap, not too expensive either for a product like this and once you see how intense this you will know: you get a lot of bang for your buck with this one!

What does this product have to offer?

This liquid blush is a multi-use product that can be used under or over makeup without messing with your base. It has lots of different shades and the Blursh range also features liquid bronzers and highlighters so there is something here for everyone. It can e sheered out for a light flush, but it is pigmented enough to be used as a liquid lipstick on the lips. I actually saw an image somewhere (don’t remember where sorry!) where this exact shade of blush has been used as an eyeshadow for a very draped monochromatic editorial look. It looked stunning, but it is the sheer amount of pigment that is throwing me off with this one.

What is the Blursh like?

This product started off promising enough: it comes in a small jar that has a doe foot applicator. This is quite standard packaging for most liquid blushes. But you can also see that there is quite a lot of product on the doe foot and it looks a bit thick and gloopy. Not a bad thing per se: this is a creamy liquid that settles down into a powder finish and that is something I have yet to find in a liquid blush formula. The shade is stunning! It is a very intense reddish shade and since I had figured out I preferred more vibrant shades for my liquid and cream blushes, I was very hopefull this would be great on me. Until I swatched this.

How does the Blursh swatch?

Is it a blush? Is it an airplane? No, it is the Made by Mitchell Blursh in Where’s the SPF? Can you see how intense and vibrant this is? Yup, I suddenly understood why the brand claims this can be used as a liquid lipstick, because boy is this some insane level of pigmentation or what?! I struggled blending this out on the back of my hand. Due to the cream to powder formula you don’t have a lot of time to work with this and once it sticks down it-will-not-budge. So again: is that a bad thing? Nope, but for me this is just a bit more than I was bargaining for. I prefer my liquid blushes to have a bit more play time to really give a seamless look.

What does the Blursh look like on my fair skin?

With a shade this intense I was scared it wouldn’t work on my fair skin. In the bottle this shade looks like an orange toned red, but I was suprised to see it turn into more of a pinkish red once blended out on my skin tone. What I ended up doing to make this work was to apply a bit to the back of my hand and then gently tap the product on with my fingers. That was still far too intense a bit splotchy looking, so I ended up blending this in with my makeup sponge to really mesh it into my base. And that works! It is pretty, but also intense. This is a bit more blush than I would normally go with. Now one thing you can also still do is to apply this and then apply foundation. I am sure that will help sheering this out too.

My final thoughts

The Made by Mitchell Blursh in Where’s the SPF may not be for me, but I am happy I got to try such a different, innovated product. I appreciate how it is different from any other cheek product I have tried. Where most liquid blushes that say they can be used on the lips will result in a sheer wash of color, you will just know with this one that it can truly work as a liquid lipstick. It even has that same dry down. And that’s why I didn’t love this and ended up decluttering it quite quickly. Is this a unique product? For sure, but sometimes you should just know when you need to stick to your guns and when you should be more adventurous. This one is a bit too adventurous for me.

Would I recommend the Made by Mitchell Blursh liquid blush?

You know, I think this is a good product and from that point of view I would recommend it. It is unique, it is different, the shade is an absolute marvel and worked really well for me, but this just doesn’t go with my natural/ everyday basic b*** makeup look. This is great if you are makeup artist or if you like doing more editorial looks. It is essentially a makeup like paint that you can use in multiple ways. So yes, I see merit for this product in the beauty market, but I don’t see merit for it in my personal makeup collection. It had fun trying it though!
