You know me! I love a face spray and I loved and tried the Essence Herbal face mist before. This time around they released a new flavor: the Happy Bliss face spray. Part of their Hello Good Stuff line, it is another extension of Essence’s skincare range. While simple, I have quite enjoyed their offerings and when they did this, it intrigued me. Because one of my favorite face sprays is the Vitamin C face spritz from The Body Shop and this would make for a great and much cheaper alternative if it is any good.
Skincare review: Essence Hello Good Stuff Happy Bliss Face Spray
Since Essence is an affordable makeup brand, you betcha they make some affordable skincare. This puppy retails for just €2.99 which makes this about a sixth of the price of The Body Shop’s version. But even if something is this affordable, I still like to ask myself the question: is it worth the price point? Because cheaper isn’t always better and with skincare you just never know. There is a lot of affordable skincare on the market that is good, but with Essence I have found the formulas to be quite simple and I tend to go through the products quite quickly. So the question is: is it worth it in the end?
What does this product have to offer?

As with all Essence products the packaging is cheap and simple. This comes in a spray bottle which is handy to use. It only comes with 50 ml of product which isn’t a whole lot all things considering. And when products are this cheap, I will often wonder what the ingredients are like. This is best used after shaking it up and I like using a face mist like this at the start of my morning skincare routine to add some hydration before going in with my actual skincare products. I just find it helps with locking in moisture and my skin needs all the moisture it needs.
What are the ingredients like?

I always like having a look at the ingredients list of skincare products. Now I am not a dermatologist or skincare expert but sometimes the ingredients list is just something that can help inform us what this product might do, or not. This is the ingredient list:
INGREDIENTS: AQUA (WATER), GLYCERIN, CITRUS PARADISI (GRAPEFRUIT) FRUIT WATER, CITRUS GRANDIS (GRAPEFUIT) PEEL OIL, ENANTIA CHLORANTHA BARK EXTRACT, CINNAMOMUM CASSIA BARK EXTRACT, CITRUS SINENSIS (ORANGE) FRUIT EXTRACT, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, PENTYLENE GLYCOL, SODIUM LAURYL SULFOACETATE, SODIUM OLEOYL SARCOSINATE, SODIUM CHLORIDE, SODIUM OLEATE, DEHYDROXANTHAN GUM, CITRUS AURANTIUM DULCIS (ORANGE) PEEL OIL, OLEANOLIC ACID, SODIUM SULFATE, CITRIC ACID, SODIUM BENZOATE, POTASSIUM SORBATE, BENZYL ALCOHOL, LIMONENE, PARFUM (FRAGRANCE), LINALOOL, CI 14700 (RED 4), CI 15510 (ORANGE 4).
Here we can see that there are some main ingredients like water and glycerin which can be found in many skincare products. I was suprised though to find actual citrus extracts to be this high up on the list for this price point. They are all at the top of the list and it doesn’t stop there. It may be good to know this does contain fragrance so if you are sensitive to fragrance this may not be for you. But for the most part I don’t see anything that I find truly concerning.
How did this work for me?

Overall I really liked this. I already liked the Herbal face mist, but I think I may like this even more. I just like a bit of vitamin c in the morning and I like the zesty scent in the morning. It’s probably a placebo effect, but I find it helps me to wake up in the morning. I felt it hydrated my skin and made for a great base underneath the rest of my skincare. The only downside to this? It comes with very little product. With everyday use, this bottle only lasted me about 6 weeks. That means you’d have to repurchase this continuously which might make it quite expensive in the end.
My final thoughts
I like the Essence Happy Bliss face spray! A lot more than I had expected and the ingredient list is decent for such an affordable product. I liked how this hydrated my skin, it didn’t set off any of my redness or other sensitivities, and I liked how it smelled and felt on the skin. This is a good basic to have if you are looking to add some hydration and that’s how I have been using this and I definitely think I might repurchase this. While it may not be the most mindblowing product, none of the Essence skincare products are in my opinion, this is still a good option for a start of a skincare routine.
Would I recommend the Essence Happy Bliss face spray?
Yes I would! I think many people might like this. If you are looking for a good product to setup a skincare routine and you don’t want it to break the bank this is nice. Provided you don’t have too many expectations, you’ll find yourself with a decent product with a pretty impressive ingredient list at a fraction of the cost of most face sprays on the market.
