Colourpop is not my favorite brand for blush. This is not the first, second, not even the third time I tried one of their powder blushes. While I have liked some in the past, I have also tried a few that I didn’t love as much. My main issue was never the quality but the shade. Often I got the product home and then felt it didn’t look the same as it did on the website, nor did it match the shade description which was always disappointing. After trying a few, I have found one that I know I will keep around for a long time. In Just My Pluck I have finally found my best shade in a Colourpop powder blush.
Review: Colourpop Just My Pluck powder blush
Sadly I can no longer find this on the Colourpop website anymore, but it may be good to know that Colourpop releases a lot and in that multitude of launches there is a lot of overlap. So if this particular shade is no longer available chances are you can still find something similar on their website for sure. At full price one of these blushes retail for €12, but I got mine during last year’s Black Friday sale and I paid just over €7 for this one. I always recommend to wait for a sale if you’re not in the US. The discount will set off the shipping and handling fees you have to pay making it a bit more affordable. I also recommend to make sure you have a wishlist that adds up to reach at least the minimum for free shipping.
What does this product have to offer?

This blush launched as part of the Orchid You Not release. That entire launch was steeped in purples and so this blush follows that line. This was described as a cool toned mauve, but when I got it home I felt it looked more like a cool lavender in the pan. This is what I mean when I say that the shade descriptions don’t always match up. Colourpop will say it is one shade and then I get it home and I feel it isn’t quite that. At least not on my fair skin with a cool undertone. I think that might skew what their shades look like on me. They do have swatches on fair skin tones, but those are usually warm toned which make the products look cooler than they are.
What is this blush like?

Just My Pluck was a pleasant surprise to me though. For once this blush shade showed up on me the way I wanted to. I love a mauve toned blush and this finally looks like that. The other ones I had tried were either too deep or too warm and this was perfect. So look past how lilac this looks in the pan. I think the fact that this came in a purple compact might have made this look more purple/ lilac than it actually is. In fact, because I didn’t love the packaging of this one, I took one of the other Colourpop blushes out of it’s much nicer cardboard packaging and this blush now lives in that. So much better!
How does this blush swatch?

Is it just me? Or do the best blushes always show up the worst in a swatch? I mean judging by what this looks like on the back of my hand you might think: nah that’s not a good thing. But trust me: this blush is beautiful when applied with a brush. In a swatch it looks thin and not that interesting. It does show up as being a good cool toned mauve though! So that’s promising. What I love about it though? The way this builds up and sits on the skin is beautiful though. So let’s cut to that.
What does this look like on the cheeks?

Nothing says pretty blush than a bit of a before and after. I mean, this looks good. Is this a unique blush shade? No. But from this brand this is now the one and only blush I have kept around. We all know I love a good mauve and this is exactly what I was hoping those other ‘mauve’ blushes I bought from Colourpop in the past would do. So yes, in terms of a good mauve toned blush this is perfection to me. Did I need it? No. Will I keep it? Maybe. I would have to compare this to some of my other mauve toned blushes to determine whether it is worth hanging on to.
My final thoughts

Colourpop Just My Pluck is a great mauve toned blush that I am happy to finally have found. I love my some mauve toned blushes, but I already have many and so this isn’t wholly unique in my blush collection. That said, I like the formula: it is soft, light, easy to build up and it never looks like too much when it goes on. The undertone is spot on and I feel this is a blush that simply goes with everything. And lately I am realizing that that’s what I want in a blush: something that I don’t have to think about, can throw on with whatever makeup I am wearing and I’m good to go. Yes, this is a good blush in my book.
Would I recommend the Colourpop Just My Pluck blush?
Seeing this is no longer for sale and you’d probably have to find this through a resale site if you want to find exactly this, I’d say no, not worth it. But if Colourpop releases a blush that looks similar and you want to try their powder blush formula in a good cool toned mauve blush shade? The this is worth snatching up.
